Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Melbourne, FL Coastal Engineering Group as a Senior Coastal Engineer/ Project Manager.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE
Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area. On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications. On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems.

JOB DUTIES

Responsibilities for the position includes project management and providing the expertise of a seasoned coastal engineer to all conventional aspects of coastal engineering projects and applying advanced concepts and techniques to engineering problems.
The successful candidate will develop; project design and design concepts to be executed by junior engineers; plans and specifications; investigations and studies; criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most cost-effective solution; solutions to technical problems; feasibility analysis; project scope, cost estimates, schedules and budgets; work in coordination with the client; junior staff and technical personnel; responsibility for maintaining quality standards and quality control; and responsible for managing projects and client relationships.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Engineers with ten years experience since B.S. or nine years since M.S. Typical incumbent has 15 to 20 years of experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, technical writing and communications skills with a proven track record in successful project management and execution of all phases of coastal engineering/restoration projects including, planning, design, permitting, construction and monitoring. Understanding of client relationships and project funding mechanisms, policies and local approval processes a plus.
The successful candidate will have a P.E. and 8 to 12 years’ experience with coastal, marine and dredging projects with an understanding of coastal environmental issues. Candidates should have a M.S. degree in coastal, ocean or civil engineering.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

P.E. license is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to assemble and analyze data.
