How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Able to author technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
  • Good understanding of Network Rail, London Underground, Railway Group standards, British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Able to present their work and represent their colleagues on the project in presentations and meetings and independently deliver work and integrate with larger project teams.
  • Develop broad technical competence and able to check work of all those in the project team. Able to assign and check the work of other engineers. Experience of managing interfaces with other railway engineering disciplines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to determine appropriate basic input data prior to commencement of work. Applies professional knowledge and experienced judgement but refers to more senior staff for complex matters.
  • Ensures that their own hand and computer calculations are clear, understandable, properly referenced and filed.
  • Fully proficient in structural analysis and design using appropriate software and able to prepare calculations for more complex structures with minimal supervision.
  • Offer new ideas to improve solutions and processes and see through ideas to implementation and completion.
  • Knowledge of Rail Solutions CAD standard. Clear knowledge of BMS work procedures, and ability to brief project team on them and ensure adhere to MP5 work procedures. Clear knowledge of Atkins Rail BMS. Capable of implementing BMS filing matrix and project filing s stems and able to guide others in the team.
  • Responsible for completion of projects to time and cost. Able to assign work to other engineers and reliably manage a small team.
  • Provide regular supervision to junior members of the team. Familiar with commercial and financial aspects of project management.
  • Able to work as reliable and pro-active member of the team, able to apply knowledge gained. Increasing knowledge of, and use of, Atkins capabilities outside of business units.
  • Developing relationships with Atkins colleagues outside of the business area.
  • Regular client contact. Building relationships with limited set of common clients.
  • Good understanding of Rail technologies and markets railway civil engineering technologies and markets and able to discuss with clients.
  • Successful in identifying and following through on leads/suggestions associated with existing clients.
  • Able to realistically estimate pricing associated with projects within their area of expertise.
  • Experience in preparing project cost estimates for more complex packages of work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to manage the drafting of responses to bids within their area of expertise. Able to respond professionally to enquiries.
  • Demonstrates the necessary level of competence and responsibility according to grade. Clear understanding of UK safety legislation including CDM regulations. Completion of Skillport safety modules.
  • Able to evaluate designs for their implications on safety.
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of sustainability principles.

Internal:

  • Nurture relationships with other business units and divisions within Bangalore and UK.

External:

  • Contact with clients, representatives, contractors and suppliers on matters concerning the project and is able to represent the department on multi- disciplinary projects.

What will you contribute?

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering/Science or related discipline with typically 7 years of relevant experience or PhD in related discipline with typically 5 years of relevant experience
  • Expected to attain Incorporated Engineer status or development objectives completed for Chartered Engineer status.
  • Good communication and listening skills, writing professional reports with minimal rework required.
  • Identifies and rectifies concerns keeping Supervisor informed. Discusses career goals and aspirations.
  • Ability to listen, understand and follow instructions. Issuing clear and precise instructions to less experienced team members
  • Able to draft responses to straight forward queries. Willing to participate and contribute to company social activities. Acts in best interest of the team at all times.
  • Take initiative to pull the team together and accomplish team goals and Fosters team building.
  • Willingness to share information and knowledge with team members. Shows flexibility in work tasks and location within the project group and other teams
  • Being able to understand the implication of adjusting priorities of team members
  • Is proactive and co-operative in a multi-disciplinary project team environment
  • Proactively seek out advice and counsel from senior engineers
  • Builds relationship with limited sets of UK colleagues
  • Regularly supervises junior staff and offers technical guidance to less experienced team members
  • Displays appropriate levels of assertiveness
  • Responsive to meeting internal and external client requirements
  • Starts to demonstrate an understanding of people management issues
  • Self-discipline and able to manage own daily work allocation as well as those of more junior team members
  • Demonstrates professionalism in time keeping
