Senior Fuel Channel Engineer

Candu Energy is looking for senior fuel channel design engineers/structural analysis knowledgeable in Candu fuel channel technology. A number of roles are open that will require some or all of the following skills:

  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work on the fuel channel to applicable codes, standards and procedures meeting quality, budget and schedule expectations.  The design activities include, but are not limited to the preparation of technical calculations and the preparation of design documents and technical reports.
  • Develop, plan, specify, schedule, conduct and/or lead detailed phases of the engineering work for fuel channel components during proposals, procurement, manufacturing, qualification and installation.
  • Review design reports, calculations, documents and drawings in support of design verification.
  • Define work scope, prepare responses to technical questions, communicate client and SNC-Lavalin requirements, monitor and report progress regarding fuel channel design activities.
  • Provide component procurement support for active refurbishment projects
  • Develop and review technical documents, such as: engineering drawings and bill of materials, calculations, design specifications, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals,  technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), data sheets, system classification lists, code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.;
  • Prepare and review TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary modifications
  • Interface with the regulatory bodies, such as: TSSA and CNSC, as required;
  • Perform design review and design verification for the design and engineering work done by others
  • Support field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, Advanced Fuel Cycle, and  closeout packages for EC revisions, etc.
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters

Qualifications:

  • Degree, Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering from a university of recognized standing
  • Licensed, or eligible to and in the process to license, as Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • Team player
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • Proven written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in the application of GD&T
  • Proven aptitude for continuous learning
  • Knowledge in manufacturing processes
  • Experience in FEA structural analysis using ANSYS/DYNA/ABAQUS is a preferred
