The Resources (Oil & Gas) Business Unit in Calgary Office is currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Rotating Equipment Specialist).

The Mechanical Engineer shall have extensive experience in Oil & Gas and Mining /SAGD projects, supervisory experience and effective communication skills. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing the scope of work on the project and man-hours estimate. The candidate shall have versed experience in rotating equipment in general and specialized in pumps (Slurry, API and Non-API), all types of compressors, fans and blowers. The Mechanical Engineer will have direct responsibility of mechanical deliverables, supporting the project mechanical lead, coordinate with other engineering disciplines, client and supplier. The candidate shall be an integral part of a task force team in an ongoing sustainable project.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for rotating equipment deliverables
  • Liaise with and coordinate with the other engineering disciplines and procurement team
  • Participate in all phases of project, including conceptual, FEED, detail design
  • Provide Construction and Commissioning support as required
  • Perform job responsibilities under the direction of the Project Mechanical Lead and Project Engineer(s)
  • Work efficiently and maintain the required technical quality of work produced within the project schedule and budgeted man-hours
  • Prepare specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, review and approve vendor documents and drawings
  • Supervise and mentor junior mechanical engineers and design personnel assigned to the project team as required
  • Ensure adherence to client and/or company specifications, work instructions, quality processes, governing codes and standards, and good engineering practice
  • Responsible for reporting the progress status of the equipment being handled to the Project Mechanical Lead and Project Engineer(s)
  • Provide technical assistance to discipline lead and other project team members
  • Provide input to project cost estimates as required
  • Interface with Client's representatives and maintain a good relationship throughout the project
  • Be conversant and knowledgeable with the requirement of current legislation and standards e.g., CSA, API, NFPA, ASME Codes and industry Standards, Federal, and Provincial Regulations
  •  Must be methodical and systematic in his/her approach
  • Responsible for building and maintaining a positive relationship with all project personnel, engineering team, and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Recognized Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University
  • Registered / or be able to register as a Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta
  • 10-15 years of rotating equipment experience in Oil & Gas and Mining industries
  • Field experience will be considered an asset
  • Proficient with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Report writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Willing to travel to site and vendor shop as per project needs and requirement
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and organizational skill
  • Strong team player & ability to handle multi-tasks
  • Ability to meet assignment schedule & deliver quality products
  • Self-motivated & goal-oriented
  • Ability to prepare proposals (define scope of work)
  • Ability to work and perform tasks independently with minimum supervision and guidance
