PROJECT SUMMARY

The Shoreline Power Group is a Joint Venture of Aecon, AECOM and SNC-Lavalin.  Shoreline Power Group will be completing the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FCFR) project.  The joint venture has been awarded a contract by Bruce Power to execute the Unit 6 FCFR at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario.

This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centrepiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program.

The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Senior Planner is responsible for implementing best project planning and scheduling strategies, coordinating and developing project schedules and supporting the project controls team.  Able to guide in preparing, updating and monitoring the complex integrated project schedules for engineering, procurement and fabrication tasks with industry best practice planning and cost control techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

General duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of project Work breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) with project controls team in conjunction with project execution plans
  • Lead and support the project team in the implementation of an integrated cross functional master schedules with various stakeholders’ inputs
  • Implement project planning and scheduling strategy, plans and procedures, reflecting both company and customer expectations
  • Coordinate and work with project stakeholders to for projects and programs applying resource loading and leveling the schedules
  • Analyze deviations from the baseline in the project master schedule highlighting critical tasks/delays and propose corrective actions and report
  • Perform critical path analysis and report
  • Analyze and highlight the overall schedule impact of any variance/ change orders raised to enable scope changes
  • Knowledge if reviewing third party schedules and able to incorporate into project master schedule
  • Advise and propose solutions on matters that could prevent meeting the project objectives, participate in the decision making process to optimize the overall project schedule
  • Assist and support delegated engineering departments/ groups in their planning and scheduling activities
  • Interface with other Project Controls specialists and contributing areas to develop a well-defined overall plan that meets established milestones
  • Maintains communications with the personnel responsible for the project reporting to ensure the timely issue of information for performance and progress reporting activities
  • Develop planning expertise in others by advising junior and intermediate controllers on work related tasks
  • Meet quality requirements in conduct of work
  • Make presentations to other team members as required
  • Special assignments, ad hoc reports and other related duties as required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Primavera P6
  • Proficiency in MS office suite is essential
  • Experience at delivering scheduling function within complex engineering and procurement/production projects
  • Ability to learn new systems, processes and computer applications as per company standards
  • Knowledge of project management techniques (i.e., critical path method, earned value technique)
  • Must show initiative in collecting, integrating and analyzing all the information obtained from different project partners
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, understand and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work with all staff, build  and maintain good working relationships
  • Ability to establish priorities and work under pressure to  meet deadlines
  • Respond adequately to changes in work scope and schedule in accordance with the Change Management procedure
  • Participates in the decision making process to propose solutions on objectives not being met
  • Good understanding of company financial systems
  • Good understanding of company and project requirements, knowledge in engineering design practices, procurement and construction
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to details
  • Effective problem solving skills with a results oriented approach
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills and communicate effectively
  • Able to perform tasks with minimum supervision and taking ownership of tasks performed

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or equivalent
  • 8-10 years’ experience in planning environment.
