Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Atkins, an SNC-Lavalin company, is a world-leader in engineering and design consultancy and construction; we have the breadth and depth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects. Following an exciting and very successful start to AMP7, the Infrastructure division is currently seeking to appoint a number of senior/principal mechanical engineers to join our Infrastructure team. The roles are to be based in the south east region, including our Epsom office.

We have an extensive portfolio of UK and International projects, helping our clients address asset creation, process improvement and plant optimisation needs. Our locally focused teams incorporate expert electrical, ICA, process, mechanical and civil engineers who provide a multidisciplinary approach to solving our clients’ problems in creating, managing, building and investing in water and wastewater infrastructure.

Role requirements:

  • Educated to degree level with a mechanical engineering bias; ideally a chartered Member of a recognised engineering institution.
  • Extensive UK water sector experience.
  • A Blend of leadership and technical expertise.
  • A proven ability to manage and mentor teams and/or individuals and/or projects, potentially split across disciplines and locations.
  • A developing external profile and reputation; a desire and willingness to raise the profile of oneself and the Company.
  • Willingness to contribute to and develop our technical knowledge networks.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and/or contribute on feasibility, outline and detailed design projects.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients within the UK and worldwide.
  • Support bidding and be proactive in the winning of work.
  • Take ownership of specific ‘skill areas’ or activities within our technical knowledge networks.
  • Supporting and mentoring, with the possibility of formal line management responsibilities.
  • Working with and developing our digital tools and products.
