About the job:

We are seeking applications from experienced professionals to join our world class team as a Senior Safety Engineering consultant.

Foremost among your attributes you will be a great communicator with the drive and passion to develop your technical expertise in our industry leading team.

Does this sound like you? In which case, we’d love you to apply for this role.

The Role:

The role is for a Senior Safety Engineer within our Safety Engineering team. As part of a leading consultancy, you will successfully lead the delivery of Safety commissions with influence in the Energy sector. You will be supporting client projects and their ongoing operations, within the Oil & Gas industry and, increasingly, projects associated with energy transition and Renewable industries.

Innovation is at the heart of our team, and we strive to continuously improve our capability and efficiency.

Our reputation is centred on delivering the right solutions to our clients’ problems. We value the relationships we have with our clients: you would help to improve the engineering service we provide, and build close relationships with the client, founded on trust and delivery.

Typical activities would include:

  • Technical lead for project delivery. Technical excellence is key to our success and you would help build on this tradition.
  • Project engineering to ensure studies and projects are delivered in compliance with agreed scope, budgets and schedules.
  • Conducting consultancy safety scopes (in particular, experience in QRA, Formal Safety Assessments, COMAH, DSEAR, etc is essential) for major hazard industries.
  • Technical report authorship.
  • Leading junior engineers on projects and providing technical guidance and mentoring support.
  • Preparation of cost estimates and bids for new work scopes.
  • Participation in HAZID, HAZOPs, LOPAs and other risk assessment workshops.
  • Direct engagement with clients and developing strong relationships with existing and future clients.

The Person:

  • We are looking for people who relish technically challenging engineering projects. You will be passionate and driven to improve the way we do things and deliver above and beyond to clients. You will be a proactive team player with excellent problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.

  • Familiar with relevant legislation and industry standards and able to apply this knowledge and advise clients in relation to these, such as COMAH, DSEAR, Safety Case Regulations etc.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports to a high standard and check the work of others.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent time-management skills with proven ability to work to deadlines.
  • Experience in a client-facing role, showing an understanding of commercial challenges relevant to a consultancy business, confident in selling our services and winning work.
  • Experience of contributing to successful bids and proposals.
  • Track record of adding value through innovation.
  • Have a network of contacts in the industry.
  • Be responsive and proactive to opportunities to growth business.

Training and Development:

Kent develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through regular career discussions.

To apply, please submit your CV along with a cover letter briefly outlining your background and why you’d be a good candidate for this role.

Whilst fully supported within the team, you should still be able to demonstrate an ability to take ownership of tasks undertaken and ensure work produced is of the highest quality, applying appropriate rigour and self-checking processes. As a Senior Engineer, you should be confident supervising and mentoring more junior engineers where appropriate.

Note that our team works across onshore and offshore oil & gas facilities as well as a range of low carbon and renewable industries. We welcome applications from safety specialists in any of these areas and do not necessarily expect you to demonstrate experience in all sectors.

The team largely follows a hybrid working model, splitting our time between our Glasgow city centre office and home working. We would also welcome applications from those who would prefer to be full time home workers or work from one of our other offices in the UK (Aberdeen, London, Epsom, Edinburgh or Bristol). Our team is very flexible and inclusive to people’s preferred work patterns and we would be happy for this role to be on a reduced hours or non-standard working week basis.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.

If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV, details of any current or previously held security clearance.

Kent is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures and ability.
