Atkins continues to play a lead role in delivering high profile projects to meet future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements. We are also working closely with our clients to adapt to the evolving Covid-19 environment. Consultants from Atkins and their partners in the supply chain, are working with government, local authorities, private developers, and agencies worldwide to develop our future cities and infrastructure.

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base.  With over 300 specialists in our transport planning business we are able to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner with particular interest in the planning of active travel schemes and measures to work within our Transport Planning team in the London office.

The successful candidate will contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business. Alongside the personal growth there will be increased opportunity to get closer to and understand key clients in this field.

You will be imbedded into our team of talented individuals with experience in a wide range of areas surrounding traffic assessments, town centre masterplan, motorway junctions modelling, modelling of bus priority schemes, pedestrians, and cyclists etc.

The Candidate:

Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in the following:

  • Have a creative mind, able to think outside the box and bring innovative ideas to design.
  • Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident team worker with ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to proposals and bids.
  • Ability to manage medium size projects or workstreams within larger projects.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies such as -

  • Experience in the planning and design of walking and cycle routes as well as public realm projects, infra structure and highway design.
  • Experience in GIS tools.
  • Experience in AutoCAD desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in route audits
  • Experience in planning and forecasting tools such as PTC and CyIPT.
  • Up to date knowledge on the latest standards, codes and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Successful candidates will have:

  • A relevant degree.
  • A passion for transport planning and emerging areas.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institute is desirable but not essential.
