Senior Transport Planner

The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements and sustainable travel (walking and cycling). Consultants from Atkins and their partners in the supply chain, are working with government, local authorities, private developers and agencies worldwide to develop our future cities and infrastructure.

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver Transport Planning projects for Gloucestershire County Council.  With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business, we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.
The Roles:
We are recruiting a Senior Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning team in Gloucester, and would like to discuss this exciting opportunity with prospective candidates. We cover all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support. Our transport planners support our clients in findings the best outcomes for their transport challenges. Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multi-disciplinary teams, the successful candidate should have a broad range of transport planning skills which may include policy and strategy planning, scheme appraisal, transport modelling, travel demand management and travel planning, as well as development planning.

You will work as part of larger project teams with responsibilities for scoping and undertaking technical transport planning tasks, interfacing with other teams / disciplines, contributing to reporting and client and stakeholder engagement.

The successful candidate will have a track record in project delivery and a dedication to delivering quality outputs and outcomes for our clients.

The Candidates:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transport Planner to join our transport planning team in Gloucester, with 5+ years of relevant experience.  Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in the following:
o Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills;
o Excellent communication, with strong report writing capability;
o Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines;
o Confident team member and team leader, with ability to work independently;
o Experience of working to time and budget constraints.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a range of technical skills and competencies which will include some of the following:
o Development of transport strategies and plans (local and strategic);
o Scheme appraisal;
o Outline Business Case and Full Business Case preparation;
o Development of multi-modal transport strategies;
o Stakeholder Engagement;
o Public Consultation;
o Development of walking and cycling schemes, and/or Public Transport (bus and rail);
o Travel Planning.
Successful candidates will have:
o A range of relevant technical skills and competencies;
o A relevant transport planning, urban planning, geography, engineering degree or similar (or preferably post-graduate Transport Planning qualification (MSc.);
o Knowledge and appreciation of current UK transport policy;
o Membership of a relevant professional institute (preferable).
