The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements. Consultants from Atkins and their partners in the supply chain, are working with government, local authorities, contractors and private developers to develop our future cities and infrastructure.

We have a growth plan to respond to this pipeline of work and we are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver development planning projects for our expanding client base.  With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

The Roles

We are recruiting a Pedestrian and Cycle Planner for our Transport Planning business and would like to discuss this opportunity with prospective candidates.  Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll work on flagship regeneration, site expansion and development projects.  Making the most of your transport planning and development skills, you’ll create streetscapes, secure developers planning approval and deliver sustainable accessible developments.

We’re a successful team with a well-balanced blend of skills to face our client needs and are looking for an enthusiastic individual to add further value to our offer to the marketplace. You will have an interest in transport planning and particularly public realm, pedestrian and cycle planning, with the drive to learn and progress quickly. The Candidates

Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in the following:

  • Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication with strong report writing capability
  • Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines
  • Confident team worker with ablity to work independently
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies such as:

  • Strong technical skills and understanding of transport planning techniques
  • Demonstrable project and people management skills
  • Experience in a range of pedestrian planning techniques e.g. analysing and presenting pedestrian movement, planning of pedestrian / cycling schemes, survey techniques / strategy development
  • An appreciation of public realm planning and related policy context.
  • Some software skills in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator packages.
  • Experience of using GIS.

Successful candidates will have:

  • A relevant transport planning, urban planning, geography, architecture degree or similar;
  • A passion for transportation; and
  • Ideally, membership of a relevant professional institute
