The Asset Management and Maintenance Services (AMMS) Team

The Asset Management and Maintenance Services (AMMS) team are spread across the UK, in order to be near clients and where trains are maintained and overhauled. We have 3 teams in AMMS – Midlands (Derby and Birmingham offices), North (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and York offices) and South (London and Cardiff offices). We provide advice to rolling stock owners, operators, manufacturers and other clients on the optimum way of using maintenance to realise and retain the value of the asset (rolling stock). We deal with all types of rolling stock, including locomotives, coaches, DMUs, EMUs, metros, trams and tram/trains.

 

Job Description Summary

Support the management of the Asset Management and Maintenance Services (AMMS) Midlands team, working collaboratively within AMMS and with the wider organisation to deliver business objectives (performance; business development; staff engagement; and client satisfaction).

Ensure work is undertaken with appropriate levels of governance and assurance and in compliance with SNC-Lavalin’s management systems and procedures.

Act as a source of advice and guidance within the business to deliver exceptional client service.

Generate new business for SNC-Lavalin and manage and lead the production of high-quality bids for the AMMS team.

Manage and lead projects and project teams, delivering high quality consultancy services to clients.

Manage the safety and wellbeing of staff and Associates, and support recruitment activities as appropriate.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

This role will report to the Head of Asset Management and Maintenance Services, working collaboratively with the other Service Leaders within AMMS and across the wider business.

Main duties are focused around the business objectives of Performance, Business Development, Client Satisfaction and Staff Engagement.

To help maintain, develop and execute a Service Area Development Plan which delivers the UK Business Plan profit budget and supports the UK Business Plan targets for both the AMMS team and for the wider Systems & Consulting Practice.

To support staff recruitment and retention activities to ensure the right skill mix and seniority in line with the UK Business Plan and agreed targets.

To develop the operational capability and manage staff utilisation within the AMMS team to achieve the budget targets for productivity.

To deliver new business to SNC-Lavalin through the management of the preparation, selling and delivery of compelling propositions to rail companies across the world. Lead and undertake bids and assignments, primarily in the AMMS market area. Lead Significant Bids and major / complex projects and assignments as required.

To provide strategic level input to high-value/high-risk projects and assignments at planning and delivery phases.

To ensure that relevant business systems are followed and assignment governance processes are undertaken so that assignments are properly allocated and all external and internal assignments are delivered to agreed time, budget and quality levels and to the client's satisfaction.

To ensure all work undertaken by AMMS team members and/or undertaken within the AMMS service area is carried out in accordance with the policy, processes and procedures set out in the SNC-Lavalin Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental system and in line with industry guidelines.

To be responsible for overall team management, staff care, staff appraisals, staff competence and staff development reviews, including the training, mentoring and development of individuals to enhance their competency and the range of skills in the team, and to help staff fulfil their potential.

To drive through a customer-centric culture that has continuous improvement at its heart, recognising that it is the little things we do that can make a difference.

To ensure all staff delight their clients through the delivery of a professional service.

 

Job Parameters

Ensure the safety of staff and Associates is at all times properly considered. Proactively identify and resolve key safety risks in all relevant projects.

Ensure staff and Associates receive the appropriate safety and competency training for the work they undertake.

Ensure an energetic approach is taken to create business; continually seek fresh opportunities to solve problems by exploiting the advantage of knowledge; and use technology to improve consistency and quality of delivery and drive down cost.

Work with the Team Leader, Director – Systems & Consulting and other internal stakeholders to formulate and disseminate local business strategy and goals aligned to SNC-Lavalin’s vision.

Work closely with the wider Consulting Practice and the Business Development team to market AMMS services internally and externally.

Lead and undertake assignments, primarily in the AMMS service area, to deliver strategically important projects and outcomes for clients.

Create, manage and maintain effective cross-functional / cross-product inter-departmental relationships to facilitate cross-product working and to support cross-product services.

Facilitate the capture and development of corporate knowledge in the AMMS area, working with the Team Leader and Director – Systems & Consulting to continuously refresh the AMMS knowledge bank and to improve the knowledge management systems and tools.

Create and maintain reporting processes and systems to ensure the Line Manager is kept fully up to date with work progress.

Actively contribute to a continuous improvement culture.

Recruit and develop permanent staff and Associate consultants to align with market demand.

Actively support the development of more junior staff within the business.

Ensure that regular appraisals are held with the Line Manager.

Comply with GDPR and adhere to SNC-Lavalin’s intellectual property and confidentiality regulations.

Always behave in a professional manner befitting SNC-Lavalin’s reputation.

Ensure all safety accidents/incidents are reported in accordance with the applicable procedures and corrective action is taken where necessary.

Ensure the working environment is maintained in a safe and tidy condition.

Comply fully with SNC-Lavalin’s drugs and alcohol policy.

 

Education and/or Experience

Good understanding of the principles of the Railway, Asset Management and Maintenance activities.

A broad appreciation of the maintenance and overhaul principles as applied to railway vehicles.

Chartered Engineer with a degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent; or more than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in leading teams and people is desirable.

Commercial awareness gained through experience in contract management, bidding or other relevant project/operations/sales activities is desirable. Specifically, the ability to assess project and operational risks and how they can be managed (including safety, technical, contractual and financial risks).

Fluent in English

Ability to read, write and communicate in a language additional to English advantageous.
