Atkins works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes, and due to growth in this sector we are currently seeking a Sewer Rehabilitation Team Leader to join our established water sector focussed team based in Epsom. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and developing our offering in this technical area, supporting the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure projects, both UK and overseas, involving the technical input into projects, use and development of digital solutions, data analysis, project management assistance and liaison with other offices, clients and staff.

The role will sit within the Asset Planning & Solutions practice of the Atkins Infrastructure division. The role would suit a specialist wastewater engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects and being responsible for developing more junior engineers. You may also be required to spend some time in client’s offices or on site. This role offers excellent opportunities for career development and training for the right candidate. The Individual

The candidate will be looking to learn and develop their technical, management and business development skills and have achieved or will be working towards a professional qualification through either ICE or CIWEM.  They will be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project and business development roles, taking on an appropriate level of responsibility when required.  They will be knowledgeable about changes in the Water Industry and implications on design and performance criteria.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of drainage and sewer condition inspection, prioritisation and rehabilitation, including trenchless technology and site experience of such works.
  • Knowledge of industry standard drainage and wastewater networks rehabilitation solutions.
  • Competence in the use of Geographical Information Systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proven track record in coordinating and delivering technically excellent projects.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proactive and motivated to develop technical knowledge and experience.
  • Keen interest and appreciation of the UK Water Industry.
  • A natural curiosity for developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for our clients.

Desirable Criteria

  • At or near Chartered status (CIWEM or ICE).
  • Experience of the hydraulic design and assessment of sewer systems.
  • Line Management and/or mentoring experience.
  • Project Management and business development experience.
  • Digital product technical development and sales promotion.
  • Full UK driving licence (clean)

Responsibilities

  • Management and coordination of resources for sewer condition inspection and rehabilitation works.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of sewer condition assessment and rehabilitation projects for variety of clients including UK WaSCO, local authorities and international, as part of a team as well as on individual assignments as required.
  • Undertake optioneering and designs of sewer rehabilitation for capital and operational purposes using appropriate software and maintain high levels of awareness and application of developments in software packages.
  • Technical report writing and checking.
  • Provide technical advice on sewer condition inspection and rehabilitation options to different  clients and stakeholders.
  • Project and design management of schemes, delivering projects to time and to budget.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to market Atkins’ sewer rehabilitation expertise to working groups both internally and externally.
  • Prepare financial and technical proposals for project opportunities.
  • Proactive commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Supervision, management and technical development of junior members of the team.
  • Drive the development, adoption and embedding of digital processes within the sewer rehab workflows.
  • Promote and deliver the RATS service (Rehabilitation Automation Tool for Sewers), monitoring the financial performance and developing its functionality. 
  • Promote Atkins’ sewer rehabilitation capability at Industry conferences / exhibitions.
