As a Software and Digital placement student you will help to support and deliver the software aspects of a variety of challenging and exciting projects in the UK and internationally. We operate across a range of markets including Airports, Nuclear Power, Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Environment & Geoscience, Transportation and Water.

Whether it’s the development of facial recognition, the formal verification of nuclear power plants safety shutdown systems, you’ll help us to deliver outstanding projects that respond to the needs and resources of a contemporary world. Where could I work?

As a placement student you could find yourself in one of the following business areas:

Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology (ADS&T)

Industrial year locations: Aldershot
Degree requirements: On track to achieve a minimum 2:1 or above (Master’s or Bachelor’s) in Maths, Computer Science, Physics, IT, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Geography, GIS, Geospatial, App Development, Information Technology & Communications, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control & Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
Joining on our Aerospace, Defence, Security and Technology (ADS&T) Division will mean you that you’ll be joining a specialist software practice and will be able to work with teams across a variety of mission critical industries. You could be involved in a range of projects across the full project lifecycle including: Business Analysis, Requirements capture, Design, Coding, Testing.

You’ll be working as a Systems Engineering or Software Development placement student across a wide customer base. You could be involved in a range of projects across the full project lifecycle including: Requirements Gathering, Business Analysis, Design, Coding, Testing, Development and ongoing Support & Maintenance.

Working in the fields of Identity Assurance, Geospatial information System, software development of data intensive applications, Industrial Automation and Control Systems, Software Assurance, and bespoke Software Development. Our services include the provision of independent technical advice to Customers, the supply of commercial off the shelf software combined with support and custom application training, the development of custom applications using a blend of Microsoft development tools, 3rd party API’s and industry leading databases, and the supply and maintenance of our product portfolio.

Some of these specialist areas involve, biometric management, geospatial, high-integrity and safety-critical software, control systems and information security.

Oil, Gas & Offshore wind

Summer placement locations: Aberdeen
Degree requirements: On track to achieve a minimum 2.1 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in Computer Science or similar.

Our Software Development Team in Aberdeen works closely with our clients to develop high-quality software solutions that add real value to their operations. As a placement student you will get involved in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering, design and implementation, through to testing, deployment, maintenance and support. We use a lean and agile methodology, giving you the opportunity to grow into a well-rounded developer and allowing you to have an impact on every stage of a project.

You’ll help deliver bespoke software applications using a range of modern technologies and platforms. Our technology stack is mostly Microsoft-based: we develop software using the .NET Framework and Visual Studio, in both C# and VB.NET. We use Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and legacy WinForms for our desktop apps, ASP.NET and Angular for web development, SQL Server and Azure for data, but these can change as the technologies evolve. You will also get to develop clever macros using VBA to help our engineering teams become more efficient and save time through automation.

The team will help you continuously improve your programming skills, learn new things and keep up to date with the latest developments in the industry. You will solve logical and algorithmic problems, review them with the wider team and implement these solutions into working software features. Constantly adhering to our software engineering standards, procedures and best practices and provide suggestions for continuous improvements.

• Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with the confidence to work on your own initiative or as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions
• An interest in developing digital and technology-based solutions
