About Us

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base.  With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

The Role

We are recruiting a Streets and Public Realm Design Engineer for our Transport Planning business and would like to discuss this opportunity with prospective candidates. Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll work on flagship regeneration, site expansion and development projects.  Making the most of your transport planning and development skills, you’ll create streetscapes, secure developers planning approval and deliver sustainable accessible developments.

We’re a successful team with a well-balanced blend of skills to face our client needs and are looking for an enthusiastic individual to add further value to our offer to the marketplace. You will have a demonstrable track record and solid technical capability in the Highway Design, Traffic Engineering and Public Realm field, with experience in managing project delivery; this exciting opportunity will provide you with a platform to further develop our business in the South West.

We’re seeking an ambitious chartered engineer to lead our design capability in Cardiff, linking in with resourcing needs across our Practice at a national level. You will be based in our Cardiff office although we encourage agile working to promote a healthy work-life balance.  Join us and you’ll be joining a business that places no limits on how far you can progress.

The Candidates

We have an exciting opportunity for a Streets and Public Realm Design Engineer to join our team.  Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in the following:

  • Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication with strong report writing capability
  • Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines
  • Confident team worker with ability to work independently
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies such as:

  • Demonstrable project and people management skills
  • Experience in development and implementation of urban highway, transport and public realm schemes
  • Delivery of work in line with DMRB ad MfS guidance
  • Experience of 3D design using AutoCAD Civils 3D
  • Experience with Projectwise
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts

Successful candidates will have:

  • A relevant transport planning, urban planning, engineering degree or similar;
  • A passion for transportation; and
  • Ideally, membership of a relevant professional instituteWhy work for Atkins?
