Structural Engineer

Atkins’ Infrastructure business is looking for a flexible Structural Engineer to support our Cities and Development, Energy and Defence clients around the UK in a range of exciting and unique design and construction projects.

This position will form part of our national Building Design Practice with all the opportunities for collaboration that this brings, but with a specific focus on structural engineering within our key markets.
The post will be largely based at our South East office with the flexibility to work out from our London office. The role will offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience and problem-solving skills whilst providing good opportunities for career development. We are looking for a practically minded Structural Engineer, particularly those with a Cities and Development (including commercial, residential and education) background and experience in building design.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the delivery of small to medium infrastructure projects as part of a technically focussed design
• Production of designs for projects in accordance with relevant design standards and codes
• Ensuring the provision of efficient and high-quality engineering services, to a high level of quality assurance
• Point of contact for clients, contractors, design team and third parties including architects
• Offer support and guidance to more junior members of the team where necessary
• Effectively manage own time

Requirements

Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred. Incorporated Engineer (ICE or IStructE) and/or working towards Chartership.

Established skill and delivery in:

• The design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes
• Effective Conceptual design
• Ability to use AutoCAD and structural analysis software (Robot and Fastrak). Revit experience is also desirable
• Experience in, and a desire to, collaborate within a technically orientated and technically focussed team
• Experience in the Cities and Development market (including commercial, residential and education)
• Experience of working in the Defence market (preferred dependent on level of overall experience)
• Experience of working on multi-discipline projects (preferred, depending on level of overall experience)
• Sound commercial awareness and project management skills
