Atkins is looking for a Site based Structural Engineer required for a major, Iconic and complex project in Oman.
Applicant should be based in Oman with NOC
The project is one of Oman’s most iconic projects to date and is extremely complex and challenging.
The suitable candidate will have a consultancy background and must be able to undertake design checks for steelwork and concrete works as well as checking of contractor submittals and supervision of works on site. Façade experience would be an advantage.
Ideal candidate will have working knowledge of ETABS, SAP 2000 and SAFE along with other general design programmes (Prokon etc.). Revit / BIM experience would be an advantage.
Candidate must be a problem solver and be able to demonstrate working collaboratively with contractors to resolve design and site issues that arise.
Good communication skills are a must as is the ability work with minimal supervision and direction. A minimum of 10 years’ experience is required for the role. Should be able to show experience on complex and challenging projects, ideally in the Middle East.
This role is not a standard site structural engineer role and candidates must be extremely competent technically and have proven ability in design work. The role would suit an experienced design engineer looking to further their site-based experience.
Responsibilities
Structural Engineer will be fully responsible for the review and checking of all structural site works for the project including the management of inspectors and coordination of contractor design items. Main responsibilities will include:
- Review of all contractor submittals including shop drawings and calculations
- Coordination of all contractor design items and managing the contractor design process to ensure compliance
- Providing solutions to overcome issues that arise on site including the provision of design checks or calculations as required
- Ensuring construction is in compliance with relevant codes and standards
- Maintaining and developing client relationships
- Presenting work to internal consultants, contractors and the client through reports and presentations
- Assisting with or leading project management and technical delivery
- Managing the civil and structural inspections on site
- Working with the design consultants (where necessary) to develop design and review contractor design elements.
Requirements
- An engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in civil or structural. (essential)
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a design role.
- Site experience preferred
- Chartered Engineer or in the position to imminently submit a chartership application to a recognised engineering institution is preferred
- Considerable structural analysis and/or design experience and ability to check steelwork design and connections
- Experience in ETABS, SAP 2000, SAFE etc.
- Good presentation skills and the ability to interface with clients (Essential)
- Project control and management experience (essential)
- Interest in staff development and line management (essential)
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills is a must
- BIM / Revit capability preferred
- Façade experience preferred
- Track record on complex projects desirable
- Ability to work closely with the contractor to solve problems on site
- Positive attitude towards the work and ability to work under pressure is essential
