The role sits within our Environment Practice which is a vibrant network of people providing world class consultancy and advisory services. We care about outcomes for our clients and the unprecedented challenges they face – climate change, rapid urbanisation, consumerisation, economic uncertainty, security threats and technology-driven change. The work we do is important and influential, it shapes the way our clients think, enables them to make better decisions and to deliver their projects in a world of disruption and change.

Key Responsibilities

Delivering technical work on our existing portfolio of major projects across the various areas of sustainability and net zero

Collaborating with other members of our growing team of sustainability professionals and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Champion high standards of sustainability and low carbon performance within projects, influencing project development and delivering sustainable outcomes.

Contributing to the development of our carbon management and Net Zero carbon strategy services and working as part of our team to deliver these services to our clients.

Supporting bids and work winning activities by drafting technical responses around environment and sustainability.

Support the coordination of sustainability and carbon inputs from various disciplines on major projects to drive sustainable outcomes.

Collate and edit information from a range of sources to provide clear, well written reports, strategies and plans.

Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, and check the work of others, on time and within budget.

Represent the company and continue to uphold personal, team and company reputation. 

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a sustainability / environment related discipline and will have achieved, or be working towards practitioner or full membership of IEMA or an equivalent recognised relevant professional body.
  • Sustainability and/or carbon related expertise in an industry setting, a wide range of skill sets and a willingness to become involved in a broad selection of projects.
  • Be curious in your thinking and apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions within projects.
  • Be highly self-motivated, possessing strong enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude enabling you to work with a range of technical specialists at different levels.
  • Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other Atkins or client office locations or work remotely.
  • Enthusiasm to drive your own career development with a motivation to continually learn and achieve professional accreditation.
  • Excellent verbal communicator with the confidence to present technical work to a wide range of audiences simply and clearly.
  • Excellent writing skills - clarity in scientific writing is key. Able to adapt writing style to produce documents for different types of audience, including non-specialists.

Training

Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through an annual development process. We support staff in achieving and maintaining membership of relevant institutions. You will also be part of our global Technical Networks, which provide a flow of technically orientated information and ideas through the company. Atkins will support you in your professional development, whether with the IEMA, CIWEM or others.  This includes paying your annual membership and providing access to training.
