Team Leader-Electrical

Overview

We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead a team of c.11 electrical engineers with a diverse range of engineering skills and experience in electrical engineering including EMC, power supply compatibility and remote monitoring.

You will lead an industry respected group of electrical specialists who provide technical support in rail projects at all levels of the industry from heritage fleets to new build rolling stock. This includes design, compliance, incident investigation, vehicle refurbishments and life extension. Our acquisition of Atkins has given us access to larger industry leading projects.

The team you lead will perform these roles utilising a range of consultancy skills including; expert judgement, hand calculation, computational analysis and development of bespoke analysis routines and processes. The team has a wide client base including train and equipment manufacturers, operators, owners and overhaulers.

Job Description

In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of electrical engineering projects to clients or internal project teams.  A key requirement of the role is to ensure the Electrical Engineering Team meets the business objectives of: Business Performance, Client Satisfaction, Staff Engagement and Business Development. You will have the following responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Provide leadership, direction and management for the Electrical Team;
  • Develop and maintain the Electrical Team business plan through preparation of team development plans/strategies;
  • Ensure the knowledge and experience within the team keeps up with technological developments;
  • Undertake strategic reviews of the service area’s scope of work in terms of existing client support and future emerging market demands;
  • Manage resource planning; assessing team resource requirements and recruitment;
  • Motivate and encourage close team working with all project teams, ensuring team members contribute to a positive and respectful working environment;
  • Undertake performance reviews and setting development/performance objectives for direct reports;
  • Monitor the business performance of the Electrical Team to ensure productivity, headcount and project margin targets are achieved;
  • Monitor the performance of permanent and associate staff within the team and ensure overall team performance against business objectives;
  • Marketing the expertise of the Electrical Team to internal and external clients through the preparation, maintenance and distribution of CV, capability statement and case study marketing materials.

    Project Delivery

  • Ensure the work completed by the team is to a high standard of quality, on time, to budget and is in accordance with the business safety, environmental and quality management systems;
  • Undertake Project Manager/Project Director role for projects managed by the electrical engineering team;
  • Identify technical, commercial and safety risks associated with projects and ensure these are managed through each project phase;
  • Provide peer checking/approval of technical proposals and project deliverables.

    We’d Love to Hear from You If You Have

  • Degree qualified, Chartered Engineer or similar status in a relevant engineering discipline;
  • Good understanding of the principles of railway vehicle electrical technology;
  • Ability to manage resources to deliver project requirements to time and budget;
  • Client focused approach with ability to provide leadership for assignment delivery and work to tight deadlines;
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of technical resources.
  • Good communication and presentation skills, and the ability to write clear and concise text;
  • Understanding of relevant project management principles, including project and operational risks and how they can be managed (including safety, technical, contractual and financial risks);
  • Developing the skills and expertise of individuals and recruiting where necessary;
  • Specific expertise in the area of rolling stock electrical engineering is desirable but not essential.
