This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centerpiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program.

The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.

Reporting to the Tooling Manager, the Tooling Lead / Specialist is a highly motivated, self-starter, who will provide technical support for the Fuel Channel and Feeder tooling, as part of the overall Bruce Power Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement project. The role will be divided into two subsequent phases; Phase 1 is tooling acceptance based in Cambridge, and Phase 2 is site execution based in Kincardine. Phase 1 is currently in progress, whereas Phase 2 is planned to start in April 2020. There are hundreds of tools required to perform the work, from simple manual hand delivered tools to sophisticated remotely operated robotic tools used to handle highly radioactive components.

The scope of Shoreline’s current contract is to complete the reactor retube and feeder replacement for the Unit 6 reactor, a 3.5 year endeavour. There are 5 additional reactors at Bruce Power that will subsequently undergo similar refurbishments following the successful completion of Unit 6. Shoreline Power Group is a joint venture between SNC-Lavalin Nuclear, AECON, and AECOM for the Project client: Bruce Power.
