The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements. We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base. With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business we have the flexibility and resources to support and provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.
The Role:
We are recruiting Transport Planners with particular interest in the planning of active travel schemes and measures for our Transport Planning business and would like to discuss our exciting range of opportunities with prospective candidates. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who wish to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business. We cover all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support. Our transport planners support our clients in findings the best outcomes for their transport challenges. We develop innovative solutions and advise on everything from project costs and benefits to the best options to unlock investment.

The Candidate:
We have an exciting range of opportunities across disciplines and levels of experience. Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate the following:
- Excellent communication with strong report writing capability.
- Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines.
- Confident team worker with ability to work independently.
- Experience of working to time and budget constraints.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies commensurate with their level of experience such as:
- Experience in the planning and design of walking and cycle routes as well as public realm projects, infra structure and highway design.
- Experience in GIS tools.
- Experience in AutoCAD desirable but not essential.
- Experience in route audits.
- Experience in planning and forecasting tools such as PTC and CyIPT.
- Up to date knowledge on the latest standards, codes and regulations.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
Successful candidates will have:
- A relevant planning, economics, geography, engineering degree or similar.
- Knowledge and appreciation of current UK transport policy.
- A passion for transport planning and emerging areas.
- Ideally, membership of a relevant professional institute.
