Water Technician, Peterborough/Cambridge

Following an exciting and very successful year and expansion of our International portfolio, the Infrastructure division is seeking to appoint a Water Technician to join our Water Sector focussed team based at either our Peterborough or Cambridge office.

The role will sit within the Asset Planning & Solutions practice of the Atkins Infrastructure division. You may be required to spend some time in client’s offices or on site, but this role offers excellent opportunities for career development and training for the right candidate. If you are interested in working within our Water team and want to understand where a career with Atkins might lead to then we would like to hear from you.

Whilst technical experience is not required, the applicant should be confident, literate and numerate with an interest in water modelling and engineering. The successful candidate will receive the training and support necessary to develop a career in hydraulic modelling and engineering. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems or MapInfo computer packages would be beneficial.
Responsibilities

  • Site inspections and data collection
  • Data analysis, verification and presentation in Excel
  • Update of Geographical Information Systems
  • Construction of water hydraulic models
  • Problem-solving within the project team
  • Maintain good client, supplier and in-house relationships

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 GCSE of Grade C / Grade 4 or above passes (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science (Geography an advantage)
  • A Levels or equivalent qualifications
  • Further education qualifications an advantage
  • A proactive and conscientious approach to work
  • A keen eye for detail and a desire to learn
  • Experience of working in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to understand and follow instructions
  • An ability to be creative and to innovate new solutions
  • A willingness to learn from project experiences and to adopt Atkins' systems and processes
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Full clean driving licence

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of successfully undertaking and completing work experience (voluntary / employed)
  • A knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the water cycle
  • An interest in Geographical Information Systems, computer modelling or engineering.
  • Knowledge of Infoworks, InfoWater or Synergi, ArcGIS or MapInfo, AutoCAD, Micro drainage, or similar.
