Mandy Lester, a senior process engineer in Bristol, has been awarded the Karen Burt Memorial Award during the centenary year of the Women's Engineering Society (WES). Mandy was nominated by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) for the accolade, which is presented in recognition of the best newly chartered female engineer in the UK.

SNC-Lavalin launched the Welder Community Development program in Secunda, South Africa in August this year. The intensive 1 month program was created to address the shortage of skills identified in the local community and aims to up-skill existing welders and improve their opportunity for employment. Welders are taught how to select, use and care for tools, interpret welding symbols and weld on various grades of steel in all positions that may be encountered on the job.
