Atkins contributes to community-led transformation of Seascale Beach Park
Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has contributed over £22,000 of time and resource in a community-led project to rejuvenate Seascale Beach Park, Cumbria, and its surroundings to a safe, fun and child-friendly space for local residents and visitors to enjoy. SNC-Lavalin acquired WS Atkins plc on July 3, 2017.
The contribution, made up of project management expertise, as well as 80 tonnes of topsoil, new fencing, and plant hire, is the first community project of its kind to be undertaken as part of the Decommissioning Delivery Partnership (DDP) Social Impact Team, which comprises 23 contractors in the West Cumbria region working on Sellafield.
Bringing together multi-disciplinary skills including Atkins’ engineering and project management expertise, the DDP Social Impact Team has helped transform the park into a space that can be enjoyed by the local community.
Lizzie Mawson, chairperson for the Seascale Community Beach Park Project commented: “This project has relied on the generous donations of time and resources from the local community. I am sure the local residents will join me in saying thank you to the DDP Social Impact Team for their contribution to this project and to the future of the area.”

In West Cumbria, this has involved working together with our DDP partners to bring new life to Seascale Beach Park by lending our project management expertise and donating materials. The Seascale Community Beach Park was opened on June 30 with an official ribbon cutting by the Seascale Community Beach Park Committee and local children. Attendees were also treated to live music, entertainment and food.
