What is your role at Atkins?
My role at Atkins has mainly involved design technician responsibilities. I have experience in a range of rail project work, including option proposal at GRIP 3, outline design and detailed design for points heating, level crossing and signalling power installations. I have more recently obtained experience in design management, overseeing the management of deliverables and ensuring time schedules are adhered to.
Tell us a little bit about your background?
Prior to joining Atkins as an apprentice, I studied three A-Levels. I’m currently completing a Design & Draughtsperson Apprenticeship Standard, which includes a Level 3 certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Newcastle College.
What is the best thing about your job?
The flexibility. Although I joined the business as an E&P Engineer, Atkins have given me the opportunity to move into project management. This includes my workplace responsibilities and a change in my college/univeristy studies.
Why do you love working at Atkins?
There is a good working environment where colleagues are approachable and supportive throughout different teams and disciplines.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining SNC-Lavalin?
As an apprentice, I would advise them to utilise the flexible working environment and to be confident in asking for opportunities across different areas of the business.
