They were the first to offer me a job! I felt very excited about joining such a well-known international company, and the idea of consultancy was very motivating.
What did you do before you joined Atkins?
I was a junior engineer at Daewoo motor company.
What is your role and responsibilities?
I manage our nuclear business in the Middle East, based in Abu Dhabi but serving the whole Middle East region and India.
How do you describe what you do to friends and family?
I’m an engineer and proud of it. People think I have a job like Homer Simpson.
Do you have any professional accreditations?
I’m a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a member of the Association of Project Managers.
What key projects have you worked on?
The Barakah nuclear project in Abu Dhabi (the UAE’s first nuclear power plant) and leading other smaller nuclear and renewable projects in the gulf region
What achievement are you most proud of?
Being the engineering manager for the UK nuclear generation business – managing a team of over 100 very talented engineers, helping to keep the nuclear fleet in safe operation and keeping the lights on across the UK!
What’s the most technically challenging project you’ve worked on at Atkins?
Managing the design of an alternative reactor shutdown system.

How has your career developed at Atkins?
Very well rounded, I would say. I spent many years technically developing and then taking on people and business management in parallel. The last few years have been predominantly business, client and people management. I’m an engineer at heart who loves working with people so it’s been great for me.
How have you been supported during your career development?
I’ve always been well supported and guided towards roles and projects to make sure I don’t stay in a comfort zone for long.
How do engineers and Atkins make a difference?
Putting it simply, they do what’s right – for the client, the environment and the industry they work in.
