In the company of solvers

Meet a graduate civil engineer
whose helping to shape our projects and his world.

I’m Jonathan, a graduate civil engineer at Atkins, a member of the AtkinsRéalis Group, here in the UK. When people asked me what I wanted to be when I was growing up, I was never quite sure. At school I knew I enjoyed maths, physics and economics, and I wanted a career where I’d be able to make a real impact on the world. In the end, that’s why I chose to do a degree in engineering.

Why Atkins?

I applied to join Atkins because of its graduate programme and the scale and variety of the work. Rail, nuclear, school campuses, international airports… there’s always something you can to get involved in. During my first nine months I worked with the highways and structure teams on projects across the UK, Hong Kong and Canada!

What do you enjoy most about Atkins?

As an engineer, solving real life problems is my life! And at Atkins I have the world’s brightest minds more than willing to come alongside me and help me to tackle them. Senior people to fellow graduates have helped me adjust to work life and answered any questions that I’ve had. These are the same people I spend time with outside of work, playing football and going out for pizza.

What next for you at Atkins?

From now I’ll be focusing on working towards becoming a chartered engineer. I’m also really looking forward to able to leading my own project soon. Ultimately my dream is to work on projects back home in Indonesia that will really make a difference to my people and their environment.

Excited about being able to make a tangible, sustainable impact for communities and the environment?
