My role within Atkins is an early careers advisor. I am specifically responsible for the attraction and selection of apprentices across our Transportation and Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology sectors. Alongside this I am also responsible for looking at diversity and inclusion initiatives from an early careers perspective. My main focus is to drive the conversation constantly and review methods of how best to engage, attract and select underrepresented groups making sure that there is no adverse impact at any point of the process.
Tell us a little bit about your background.
Following my Graduation in 2011 I joined a small organization where I was responsible for the recruitment of Graduates in to various FMCG companies. Following that role in October 2013 I joined Atkins as an assistant graduate advisor. As a graduate advisor I worked alongside the Infrastructure and ADST business. Since 2016 I have taken a lead on the apprentice recruitment.
What’s the best thing about your job?
I am excited to be part of (for many) the start of their careers, and enjoy speaking to the apprentices once they have joined, hearing about all the fantastic projects they have worked on and even for some the awards / recognition they are receiving. I also like the fact that I feel as though I am supporting the wider industry and helping to decrease the skills gap within STEM.
What makes a good day at work?
A good day is when I have run a successful apprentice assessment centre and I know that the offers I make will be the start of a fantastic career for the candidate(s). I am regularly surprised by the maturity and enthusiasm that the apprentices show on the day, it is very inspiring.
Tell us something you like about working at Atkins.
The team around me are so supportive and I see them not just as colleagues but as friends. I enjoy working alongside talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic people.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining Atkins?
You would be joining a friendly, supportive and inclusive company who allow you to challenge yourself and grow.
