Insights SNC-Lavalin reaches a successful safety milestone

Johannesburg, South Africa: AtkinsRéalis achieved a significant safety milestone during the shutdown campaign on the Sasol Refinery in Secunda in September 2018.  Working on sixteen projects in parallel across three divisions that include six projects completed by Technical Support Services (TSS), five projects completed by Construction and five projects completed by Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC). At the peak of the shutdown campaign more than 5,400 people were mobilized onto site by AtkinsRéalis .

TSS mobilized in line with a five year maintenance term agreement with Sasol Synfuels. Construction and EPC mobilized against work tendered and awarded directly with Sasol Group Technologies.

AtkinsRéalis executed more than 1.4 million man-hours in shortly over six weeks without any injuries. Considering the sheer volume of the scope of work and the technical complexities involved with the execution of the projects, coupled with the short execution period this was an outstanding achievement.

Stuart Kent, General Manager in sub-Saharan Africa said, “We attribute this success to the continual focus AtkinsRéalis place on the importance of safety, in our offices and on project sites. Our goal is that all our employees go home safely at the end of every day.  One team, one goal.”

AtkinsRéalis ’s persistent drive and collaboration with all stakeholders to promote a high level of commitment to safety and to doing things the right way, the first time, has proven that zero harm is achievable.
