With the above vision in mind, SNC-Lavalin is looking for an Environmental Project Manager to join SNC-Lavalin’s Site Assessment and Remediation team. This position can be based in any of the Prairies or BC locations. The successful candidate will be working with a variety of environmental professionals serving our client throughout western Canada.

How will you contribute to the team?

Reporting to the Territory Manager, Site Assessment and Remediation, the Environmental Project Manager supports the full life cycle of a project. To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Setting and maintaining project schedules, health and safety plans, and program budgets; making decisions with respect to overall technical execution of the project; liaising with technical specialists, field personnel or other project managers to ensure the technical integrity of the project.
  • Providing Management and technical skills to the assessment, remediation, and management of contaminated sites. Interpretation of data and findings and preparation and/or review of technical reports.
  • Supervision and mentorship of junior professional staff involved in carrying out field programs, ensuring project requirements are communicated and health and safety protocols are adhered to.  In addition, completing annual performance reviews, objective setting, and support for direct reports to achieve set objectives. Actively promote Health and Safety programs and culture.
  • Participate in business development activities and maintaining client relationships.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals and cost estimates.
  • Participate in short- and long-range planning within assigned client group or offices.

What will you contribute?

  • Degree in Geological Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Geology, Hydrogeology, or relevant field, with professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., or P.Geo.).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience encompassing project coordination and/or management, staff training and supervision, and contractor supervision with emphasis in the areas of contaminated site investigation and remediation.
  • Experience should demonstrate leadership and managerial experience as well as a commitment to excellent health & safety practices, ability to serve client needs and adaptable to solution based objection; familiarity with environmental regulations in the Prairie Provinces and Federal regulations.

Experience should include -

  • Preparation and review of Environmental Site Investigations including design and execution of soil, groundwater and vapour phase investigation programs, interpretation of hydrogeological and geochemical data, monitoring studies, Phase III remedial plan design and implementation and execution, report writing and review, and interpretation of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • experience in completing supervision and managing mud rotary, sonic, and auger drilling programs
  • experience completing groundwater sourcing investigations and analysis
  • interpretation of geophysics and stratigraphic interpretation of borehole logs
  • Characterization environmental aspects of site based on interpretation of data collected during site investigation, sampling, and analysis (for example, contaminants, their concentration and general extent).
  • Determination of objectives and scope for sampling program, including environmental indicators, chemicals of concern, and sampling constraints.
  • Developing environmental sampling protocols, sampling plans, including: timing, frequency, locations for continuous or discrete sampling, data capture systems, and parameter list for analyses.
  • Assessing the accuracy and precision of analytical results by applying good practice guidance or established QA/QC methods.
  • Interpretation of analytical data to identify trends, significant changes from historical patterns, deviations, or evidence of environmental stresses, etc.
  • Ensuring site assessment is completed properly and that action plans are developed and implemented to satisfactorily achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Preparing report(s) to meet regulatory and other requirements, identifying potential risk and scope of further action by appropriate stakeholders, if necessary.
  • Communication of results to stakeholders such as property owners, responsible party, regulators, the public, etc. via a public consultation or other appropriate communication process.
  • Demonstration of excellent verbal and written business communication skills, proven technical report writing skills, and an ability to self-manage and organize efficiently to complete multiple tasks with repeatable detail.
