Reporting to the Health, Safety & Environment Supervisor (HSES), the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator (HSEC) ensures that procedures are followed and precautions are in place during day-to-day InService Support Contract (ISSC) work onboard MWAV vessels and payloads, and service provider shops. The HSEC is responsible to support the implementation SNC-Lavalin’s HSE program. The HSEC must be experienced, trained, fit, and highly motivated. The HSEC will assist the HSES, Local Operations Manager (LOM) and other managers to ensure adherence to the SNC-Lavalin health, safety and environmental program.

How will you contribute to the team?

HSEC 1 – HSE and Technical Support to SLDPI Operations. (Time = 90%):

  • Interpret the HSES’s direction and put an action plan in effect;
  • Take personal responsibility and be accountable for assigned tasks;
  • Provide HSE guidance to SLDPI personnel, sub-contractors, and client;
  • Seek guidance from superiors as circumstances dictate;
  • Prepare verbal and written reports to assist in decision-making;
  • Understand and apply ISO standards detailed in SNC-Lavalin Integrated Management System;
  • Strictly comply with safety regulations applicable to the task;
  • Responsible to assess and manage risk to reduce the liability to SLDPI and MWAV;
  • Ensure proper risk assessments have been conducted and control measures are implemented;
  • Perform oversight of all day-to-day ISSC HSE activities onboard vessels, payloads, and service providers;
  • Responsible to adhere to and follow corporate policies;
  • Act as an HSE Liaison with SLDPI Head Office APM, Project , and Service Provider HSE representatives;
  • Prepare monthly reports and ad hoc reports as requested;
  • Track, trend and analyze leading and lagging HSE statistics;
  • Oversee the maintenance of an efficient and practical In-Service Support Handbook (ISSH);
  • Complete all administrative activities required to properly initiate, monitor, track, and close assigned work;
  • Participate in incident investigations;
  • Provide coaching and mentoring;
  • Promote morale among employees;
  • Communicate with HSE Team to ensure safe work practices;
  • Ensure HSE regulations are followed and any changes are communicated to the HSES;
  • Responsible for quality of work, safe work practices, and regulatory compliance for HSE;
  • Organizing and tracking competency requirement for employees;
  • Conduct Service Provider Audits;
  • Conduct Behaviour Interventions to improve safety culture;
  • Implement the Positive Incentive Program;
  • Assist service providers in establishing quality, environment, and health and safety management systems;
  • Conduct inspections;
  • Participate in HSE audits;
  • Ensure all personnel have completed orientation of the ISSH. Brief service providers and customer personnel on handbook contents and sign off requirements;
  • Coordinate the Monthly Tool-Box/Safety Talks;
  • Conduct Emergency Response Drills; and
  • Act as an advisor to the Internal & External Joint Occupational Safety and Health Committee


HSEC 2 – Support to Quality Program (Time = 10%):

  • Assist the Quality Assurance Manager with various tasks;
  • Prepare Non Conformance Reports (NCR); and
  • Maintain HSE Non-conformances; and
  • Assist with quality audits.

What will you contribute?

  • Post-secondary training in an health, safety and environment program (preferred);
  • Ability to achieve CRST/CRSP designation (preferred);
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ HSE work experience;
  • Ability to obtain an Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance;
  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of Federal, Provincial and Municipal acts and regulations;
  • Experience with Integrated Management Systems frameworks and structure, writing and creating procedures;
  • Experience developing and delivering training material. Train-The-Trainer considered an asset;
  • Formal training in ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 is considered an asset;
  • Fluent in MS Office;
  • Fluent in English and able to communicate verbally and in writing;
  • Strong delegation and time management skills, with initiative and follow-up capabilities;
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated experience developing safe work practice.
