Why join us?

We are looking for an Intermediate or senior Mechanical Field Engineer/commissioning engineer to join our team at Site C hydroelectric project. This role will be camp based at Site C (located near Fort St. John, BC) and reporting directly to the Resident Engineer Discipline Lead.

The mechanical field engineer will be dedicated to work on mechanical balance-of-plant system primarily for hydroelectric power stations, with opportunities working on other facilities such as hydromechanical equipment and turbines as project demands arise. 

How will you contribute to the team?

Reporting to the Resident Engineer Discipline Lead/ Commissioning Lead, the mechanical field engineer/commissioning engineer is required to:

  • Review all projects drawings and specifications and become familiar with the project requirement in the field.
  • Perform daily site visits to conduct field review of contractor on-going work to ensure compliance with the design documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • Supervise Site acceptance tests performed by the contractor as outlined in the contract.
  • Prepare commissioning procedures and supervise commissioning activities in the field. 
  • Report and discuss technical issues found on site to the design engineer.
  • Keeping records of all approved changes and provide input into red line and as built drawings.
  • Issue RFIs, Field instructions and provide disposition to NCRs.
  • Ensure successful project completion in accordance with design documentation, drawings, specifications and meet project deadlines.
  • Resolve complex design/project execution issues through the development of innovative solutions.
  • Establish and implement improvements to existing methods, procedures, and tool sets to maximize quality and efficiency of project delivery.
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, the management team, and clients.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and neatness of engineering deliverables will be performed in the field.
  • Provide technical guidance, engineering support and commissioning support for construction activities.

What will you contribute?

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering and professional engineering registration with EGBC.
  • 10 years or more of relevant mechanical balance-of-plant design experience including, but not limited to, the following:  HVAC, dewatering/drainage systems, compressed air system, oil handling system, wastewater system, plumbing, water supply, fire protection, piping and pumps, strainers, miscellaneous lifting devices, oil water separators, etc in hydro power generation as well as familiarity with hydromechanical equipment and turbine generator auxiliaries.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable building codes and industry standards including but not limited to ASME B31.1 and NFPA 850.
  • AutoCAD and 3D CAD software experience and exposure to BIM – Revit experience will be a definite asset
  • Strong clients focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make decisions using sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Supervisory background and proven leadership skills (will be considered an asset).
  • People oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients.
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment.
