Candu Energy/SNC-Lavalin Nuclear Inc. is actively seeking qualified professionals to support engineering roles for nuclear projects in major areas, such as, Refurbishment and Continuous Plant operation support modifications for nuclear generating Power Plants. 

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Leading the Electrical design team during the Darlington Turbine Generator Controls Upgrade Project definition and execution phases;

  • Assigning appropriate project Electrical staff to the project engineering tasks;

  • Ensuring adherence to the established engineering codes, standards and specifications using company standard practices, Operating Procedures and the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Engineering Change Control (ECC) process;

  • Ensuring and maintaining quality of the project Electrical technical deliverables;

  • Ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and project priorities;
    Assisting the Project Engineering Manager in manpower and other related cost estimates;

  • Ensuring appropriate project inter-disciplinary coordination;

  • Review of vendors deliverables, including the generator excitation design documentation consisting of hardware layout designs, diagrams and technical specifications/data sheets for system hardware components;

  • Review and approval of project Electrical technical documents produced by SLN;

  • Responsible for project Electrical engineering decisions;

  • Ensuring appropriate off-site support during Electrical modifications implementation;

  • Ensuring appropriate Commissioning support; 

  • Advising the corporate Electrical Department Manager concerning project Electrical staffing to help maintain corporate electrical manpower levels at optimum;

  • Assisting the corporate Electrical Department Manager in annual appraisals for project Electrical staff;
    Searching out and recommending Electrical training opportunities where required by project work.

What will you contribute?

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University with 8-12 years of relevant experience in the Nuclear Industry for Design / Systems

  • Thorough knowledge of Electrical system functions, configurations and equipment as used in Nuclear Power plant (including Safety and non-Safety Related Systems) or for similar BOP systems in other industries

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario with good standing;

  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian and International Codes and standards used in Electrical engineering (e.g. CSA-Canadian Electrical safety Code, ESA-Ontario Electrical Safety Code, NFPA-National Electrical Code, IEEE, ANSI, NETA, etc.), of EPRI Guidelines and INPO Topical Reports;

  • Knowledge of Standard Modification Design Process is an asset;

  • Thorough knowledge in Analysis software used in Electrical engineering (e.g. ETAP, EDSA, EMTP-RV, etc.);

  • Proven experience sizing and specifying electrical equipment;

  • Proven experience preparing and reviewing complex Electrical design layouts and schematics;

  • Proven experience preparing and reviewing Electrical Protection and Control designs;

  • Experience in conducting condition assessments of Electrical systems;

  • Experience interfacing with US NRC for Standard Review Plan is an asset;

  • Good understanding of CNSC requirements and interface is an asset;

  • Proven experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, write-ups and engineering estimates;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Results driven individual with strong interpersonal skills;

  • Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
