Job Description

The Process Plant Designer is an integrated role with the process team for the development and designing of processing plants. The Process Plant Designer will be accountable for preparing 2D and 3D designs through their involvement in PFD and P&ID advancement. From their experience, the Process Plant Designer will optimize plant designs through flowsheet development, equipment specification opportunities and general footprint management. This unique position will allow the Process Plant Designer to incorporate their design background with the technology innovations and project developments associated with the sustainable future of mineral processing.

How will you Contribute to the Team?

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Develop database-driven 3D models and layout general arrangements using 3D modelling software
  • Assisting with process flow diagrams and P&ID development for translating into general arrangements and modeling.
  • Executing designs in accordance with applicable design criteria
  • Use vendor data, drawings, and information to develop and verify the 3D models
  • Review of Vendor documentation.
  • Generate 2D drawings from the 3D model as required by the project
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews
  • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
  • Assist material quantity takeoffs (MTO’s) for estimating purposes or inclusion into bulk commodity purchases and installation contracts
  • Conduct operability and maintainability reviews, walkthroughs.
  • Participate in 3D Model Reviews and Design Reviews.
  • Inputs to task and deliverable scoping and estimates.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained.
  • Ensure relevant Codes & Standards, regulatory requirements, industry practices, and procedures are adequately applied.
  • Attend site visits and field walkdowns as required.

What experience are we looking for?

  • The candidate must demonstrate a level of training certified by degree, diploma, or certificate awarded.
  • Strong working knowledge in process system design principles
  • Experience in database-driven design and 3D modelling tools (e.g. Auto CAD, AutoCAD Plant3D, AutoCAD MEP, SmartPlant3D, Navisworks)
  • Knowledge of process flow diagram and P&ID
  • Experience in layout design for studies and projects
  • Ability to read, understand, and produce layout drawings
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project. In-depth knowledge of the design of piping systems for process and utility systems.
  • Experience working with the mining industry is an asset.
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills, with strong multi-tasking skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High fluency and proficiency in communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office-related software applications, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;
  • Adaptability to change and thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
