Summary of Position:

In this role, you as the Project Manager, ESMSA Engineering Operations will work as a Core Team Member within a Consortium executing E, EP and/or EPC projects covering design, engineering, procurement, installation/commissioning support for multiple projects under an Extended Master Services Agreement (ESMSA). 

You will be the single point of contact at site between the installation/commissioning team and SNC-Lavalin Nuclear design and engineering team.

You will work in an office environment with most time spent at the Client Office location. The purpose of the project may sometimes take them to project sites or customer/vendor offices or plant sites.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, you will:

Consortium Support

  • Provide guidance and advice to the Consortium Project Director in respect to the division of responsibilities between Consortium Partners (the “Parties”)  and subcontractors
  • Support Proposal development
  • Provide overall management, including technical, commercial, and organizational of the Allocation of Work of the Parties
  • Arrange meetings between the Parties themselves and the Client and act as the SNC-Lavalin’s spokesperson in meetings with the Client
  • Grow SNC-Lavalin Nuclear’s participation and identify areas where Client can benefit from an expanded role from Engineering arm of the Parties
  • Transmit copies of all correspondence and documents, including submitting reports and other information required to be submitted under the Contract with input from both Parties, to and from the Client.
  • Act as the designated Deputy Representative in the absence of the Representative/Executive Sponsor

Proposal Support

  • Review and approve detailed Execution Plan (detailed work plan) which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project
  • Review and approve estimated man-hours, dollars required to execute each project
  • Review and approve procurement and subcontracting strategy (where required)
  • Support development of cost estimates, covering engineering, procurement (equipment/material/fabrication), construction, commissioning/start-up (as and when required)
  • Validate proposals and price with assistance from estimating, finance and develop the final price sheet
  • Lead and/or participate in the compilation and reviews (Risk, Commercial, Legal & Finance) of proposal documents
  • Obtain required approvals and submit proposal

Planning & Resource Assignment

  • Review the Contract and the Consortium Agreement with project stakeholders and ensure proper understanding of contractual requirements, liabilities and any other exposures which can affect the project negatively/positively.
  • Review contract and contractual requirement and inform project team and stakeholders of key contract issues
  • Review project execution plan, detailed work plans, Risk management plan developed by the parties
  • Review the objectives and measures (KPIs) upon which the projects are evaluated

Execution & Control

  • Participate and represent SNC Lavalin in all project Kick-Off meetings with project stakeholders
  • Monitor the progress of the project and recommend adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
  • Establish a communication protocol to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project
  • Review the quality of the work with Engineering Project Manager on a regular basis to ensure it meets the project and contractual standards
  • Produce weekly/monthly progress reports for SNC Lavalin sr. management and support Client reporting
  • Maintain good relationship with the Client and the Consortium partner

What will you contribute?

Qualifications –

  • Degree qualified in in an Engineering or Science based discipline, and/or hold a professional Project or Program Management related qualification.
  • Five to ten years of project management experience.
  • Proficient technical knowledge and process support skills, including a good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proven ability to effectively coach and mentor other team members.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with clients.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and properly appreciate problems and deal with them swiftly in the interest of the project.
  • Ability to work extended hours due to project deadlines and spontaneous demands to accommodate project and client requirements.
  • Ability to work at Client’s site for extended time periods.
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment in an environment of changing / conflicting priorities.
  • Strong work organization and time management skills.
  • Driven by customer needs, obsessed with quality, excellence, and safety.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities –

  • Knowledge of nuclear industry; clients and operations are an asset.
  • Able to work productively and seamlessly across multi-functional teams to enable an efficient project management process.
  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Technically savvy, with ability to understand and lead technical activities and discussions with diverse groups ranging from Engineering, Procurement, Clients, and Suppliers.
  • Proficient in presenting regular formal reports to senior internal and client management stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and ability to process diverse and complex information and clearly define path forward.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Understanding of project delivery methodology including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology and inspection and test plans.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
