Insights Liberating your potential as an SNCL Graduate

I’m Nthabiseng Morajane, junior mechanical engineer at AtkinsRéalis ’s Technical Support Services (TSS) in oil & gas. I joined the company’s Graduate Engineering Development Program (GEDP) in December 2018. It has been incredibly rewarding to learn and grow alongside such a diverse and ambitious group of fellow graduate engineers.

What have you enjoyed most about the program?

From day one I felt like a valued part of the team, working hands on in the construction environment. I started on the GEDP training at the workshop, where I learned about the technical functionality of artisans. I also had supervisory training, which came in very handy for my professional work on site. Which brings me to time management – I now know how important it is to be aware of deadlines, especially during shutdowns!

How have you developed as a professional at AtkinsRéalis ?

I’ve rotated between three different sites across South Africa, and worked in many different departments, chairing handover meetings, and learning how to communicate with our clients and stakeholders. I feel the experience I gained at AtkinsRéalis has allowed me to be confident in my roles and has grown my capabilities across many units and functions. Being here has also allowed me to develop valuable skills towards professional registration. I’ve been entrusted on technical work, as well as managing resources, people and projects. My time on the GEDP has helped shaped me into the confident young professional I am today.
