His journey since has been full of vigor, with a perseverance to succeed.  After completing his year long apprenticeship, he transitioned to the role of a graduate engineer. He has just won MERIT championship award along with his team, who are just as enthusiastic as him. He has now even submitted his nomination for the New Civil Engineer Graduate and Apprentice Awards 2019! We have all our fingers crossed for you, Tejraj!

What did your job involve and what does it currently involve?

I started with the Hinkley Point C project, with the Technical Gallery drawings. It was a challenging time as I was amongst the first to volunteer to work in shifts. I was then given training to learn 3D RC modelling and have now progressed to checking the models. I am responsible ensuring that the Technical Gallery models are delivered are on time and have been through quality checks.

How does it feel to have won the MERIT championship?

It felt great to lead from the front! It was a brilliant exposure which has increased my knowledge of how the company works. Winning the championship was an absolute delight! 😊

Tell us about your submission for The New Civil Engineer Graduate and Apprentice Awards 2019?

I decided to submit my nomination as I am very passionate about the environment and this year’s topic resonated with our commitments towards climate change.  My experience with the Hinkley Point C helped to a great extent, as I had done extensive research on how low carbon renewables, and responsive gas-fired power generation works, as well as how nuclear power stations including Hinkley Point C can meet the strict emission targets. In doing so, how we contribute to keeping global emissions to below 2◦C and take a step forward to achieving a Net Zero carbon economy.

What’s next for you?

This is just the beginning for me; I would like to continue to learn new skills, and prepare to become chartered as an Incorporated Engineer.  I am thankful to Atkins for providing me with opportunities to achieve the aspirations I had for my career.
