What is civil engineering?

Civil engineering involves creating, improving, and safeguarding the infrastructure that surrounds us. It goes beyond bridges and buildings; it encompasses everything from transportation systems and water supply networks to waste management and sustainable construction.

Civil engineers play a pivotal role in ensuring communities function smoothly by addressing challenges related to urbanisation, environmental impact, and societal needs.

What are some of the top characteristics of a successful civil engineer?

Becoming an engineer involves continuous learning. Whilst there’s plenty you can learn and many skills you can develop, there are some key traits you can build to set yourself up for success.

The best engineers welcome change, understanding that progress and improvement often accompany new technologies and perspectives. This helps you face challenges head-on and turn complex scenarios into opportunities for growth and solutions.

Here are some of the top characteristics that will help you thrive as a civil engineer:

Insatiable curiosity:

Engineers ignite innovation by asking how and why, always striving to make things better and more efficient.

Creativity and innovation:

Unique solutions demand creative thinking and constant innovation!
