Environmental Project Analyst, Environmental Data Management

This position is based out of our Environment office in Trail, BC.

AtkinsRéalis offers consulting services in the following areas: soil remediation, land reclamation, environmental studies, environmental impact assessments and social impact assessments, habitat assessments and compensation, aquatic life assessments, air quality assessments and greenhouse gas emissions, carbon credits, sustainability, environmental management and planning, geographic information systems, contaminated sites, waste management, mining, water distribution and treatment, pollution control and rural development.

You will be responsible for supporting our local environment team in the Kootenay’s on a variety of projects predominately in the mining sector. The main accountabilities and responsibilities for this role are liaising with both internal and external clients,, various technical specialists, and the Program Manager. Short and medium-term planning and time management are required to meet project / program specific objectives, as well as providing improved data management strategies and various client value enhancements (cost, experience, platform). The role will also include the creation, management, and manipulation of both spatial and non-spatial data and associated metadata, as well as the production of tabular and cartographic figures and data visualizations, which may include web-mapping and data-collection application creation and support.

Your role within the team:

  • Oversee and support the team’s data management needs on a diverse set of projects through.
  • Management of Access and EQuIS Databases
  • Develop and update SQL queries.
  • Database Application programming (interface design and implementation, building new code, addressing bugs)
  • Update property information data
  • Oversee and support the team’s GIS needs.
  • Design and maintain Survey 123 data-collections apps.
  • Develop GIS maps for reporting.
  • Maintain project files.
  • Develop and update decision support models.
  • Communication with project managers, team leads and technical staff.
  • Preparation of data summaries for project managers
  • Create, manage, and manipulate spatial and non-spatial data and associated metadata.
  • Apply standard techniques and procedures in carrying out a sequence of diversified GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning.
  • Ability to detect problems in using standardization procedures due to changes in client needs or project direction.
  • Prepare maps and exhibits with GIS data sets, either static map figures or interactive web maps
  • Prepare data documentation or metadata for GIS projects.
  • Work with all forms of data sources (e.g., Lidar, AutoCAD files, CSV, etc.)
  • Create 3D models (e.g., hydrogeological models)
  • Create electromagnetic mapping figures and conduct analysis.
  • Conduct various analyses (e.g., buffer, raster, best route etc.)
  • Participate in Client needs analyses.
  • Maintain knowledge of technology developments in the GIS field and use of GIS software

The ideal candidate:

  • A post-secondary degree (B.S., B.A., M.Sc.)  in GIS, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing large sets of data.
  • Previous environmental or consulting work experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and serve as support in a number of capacities.
  • Self-starter with the competence to take initiative and go beyond what the job situation requires.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS programs Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Advanced knowledge Microsoft Access and EQuIS software
  • Experience conducting and interpreting statistical analyses would be considered an asset.
  • Use of Esri ArcGIS Online, ArcPRO, ArcEnterprise, Geodatabases is required.
  • Ability to conduct basic analysis and use of proximity tools.
  • Esri ArcGIS programming ability and knowledge of spatial and data management tools
  • Create, customize and maintain Esri ArcGIS based applications using ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS JavaScript, API, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Portal application.
  • Proficiency with front end design languages.
  • Advanced knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Advanced knowledge of Python would be considered an asset.

Compensation Range:

Expected compensation for this role is between $65,000 - $100,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
