Reporting to the Director of Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Division, the Manager, Feeder and Piping - Analysis will manage a highly technical team and at times laterally collaborate with Project Managers (PM) assigned to small-scale projects.

Manager, Feeder and Piping - Analysis will be responsible for all aspects of engineering technology related to Feeder/Piping Analysis in addition to functional responsibility such as hiring, training etc.

Your role within the team: 

Manager, Feeder and Piping - Analysis will have the following responsibilities:

  • Performing functional duties such as recruiting, training, developing, motivating, and evaluating the performance of staff.
  • Providing clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, recognizing and rewarding achievements, and taking disciplinary steps when warranted.
  • Developing and implementing corrective measures to improve the performance of individuals.
  • Managing human resource issues and resolving any such issues working as appropriate with the relevant project/technical managers.
  • Ensuring all training and qualifications are completed on time and their records are up to date.
  • Providing strong leadership within the department, across the company, and within the industry on aspects related to feeder and piping analysis.
  • Developing training material for feeder/piping analysis in addition to establishing annual training plans for the department and executing them.
  • Providing technical expertise on code and standard requirements such as CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III Division 1 pressure boundary requirements.
  • Assisting in the preparation of proposals in support of engineering scopes related to new projects.
  • Making decision/recommendation with respect to resourcing requirements of projects and working with the relevant project/ technical managers to assign resources.
  • Ensuring that an appropriate combination of skills and experience is maintained within the department to provide technical leadership and specialized expertise as required to support projects.
  • Developing mentoring plans for staff to maintain knowledge, improve staff performance and department technical capabilities.  This includes supporting project technical mangers in providing mentorship, training, developing, motivating, and coaching of staff.
  • Providing strong leadership within the technical team, and within the company for aspects related to feeder/piping stress analysis.
  • Conducting monthly meetings for the department to share lessons learned with staff and keep staff abreast of the developments in the company.
  • Working with the Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Management team to plan the work performed by the department, ensuring resource availability, and allocating resources to different projects.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Foster a good working relationship with staff, and managers in the Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Divisions as well as other Divisions.
  • Providing the lead role for supporting the design and qualification of domestic and international CANDU reactors, retube projects, and new reactor design in the areas of Feeder and Piping Analysis.
  • As the Department Manager in collaboration with the Technical Manager – Services Projects, provide services and support to the operating CANDU stations addressing items relevant to operation, life management, and maintenance of feeder and piping systems including design updates (excluding retube and refurbishment projects). Responsibilities are,
  • Working with the PM to plan the work, ensuring resource availability and allocation, assigning tasks and progress reporting against deliverables.
  • Ensuring that the activities are executed in accordance with the specified requirements such as review & comment, verification, and approval of the technical content of the deliverables.
  • Ensuring high-quality of deliverables are produced on-time and within budget.
  • Reviewing and approving project related documents/drawings and ensuring technical work meets the QA program and project requirements.
  • Ensuring that all project activities are performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards and company quality assurance manual.
  • Interfacing with internal and external customers and stakeholders to establish the priorities and ensure leads and staff are working on the prioritized scope of work.
  • Interfacing with the national regulatory bodies (CNSC and TSSA) and international regulatory bodies such as KINS ISCIR, CNCAN etc.
  • Raising scope changes (either requested by the client or discovered internally due to technical findings) and critical issues to the PM, Director of the Reactor Division, and relevant functional managers.
  • Lead assigned staff to find solutions for the technical issues.  If needed, engage additional help from Functional Engineering to seek issue resolution.

The ideal candidate:

  • University bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years technical experience in the CANDU Reactor/ nuclear field, including experience leading engineering teams.
  • Five or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • Knowledgeable of CANDU feeder and piping and supports systems and the governing requirement for their analysis.
  • Experience in feeder/piping degradation mechanisms and how to assess component fitness for service including design registration updates is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in the management of a highly technical group in feeder/piping and support analysis.
  • Demonstrated people skills to interact with external clients and organizations.
  • Ability to manage resolutions for technical issues/challenges.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of quality assurance manuals and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in reconciliation and registration processes and interfacing with the regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledgeable in CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III Division 1 pressure boundary requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in classical stress analysis calculations, finite element analysis techniques and codes such as PIPESTRESS, and GTSTRUDL , ANSYS, and LS-DYNA.
  • Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (or eligible for registration).
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet corporate needs.
  • Ability to attract, recruit and manage personnel.
  • Ability to represent AtkinsRéalis with the client and suppliers, etc.
