Technical Manager, Equipment & O&M Engineering

The Technical Manager is a member of the Project Management Team (PMT) on the CANDU MONARK Project, responsible for leading a group of mechanical equipment engineers on the Standard Plant design, procurement, operation, and maintenance scope.  The Technical Manager oversees the execution of design and technical activities in a project delivery environment in accordance with industry standards and established governance. The Technical Manager will report functionally to the Director, Process and Civil Engineering, and daily to the project Technical Director. 

Location – Mississauga, ON

Your role within the team:

Management of individuals and teams executing work packages. 

This includes:

  • Managing the design process from concept to preliminary to detailed design.
  • Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Removing barriers that could impact quality, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Working with assigned staff to find optimal solutions to project challenges.
  • Providing technical guidance to staff, as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, and in accordance with the contract, applicable specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Approving engineering documents and deliverables.
  • Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
  • Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
  • Working with marketing and other business groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.

The ideal candidate:

  • Experience managing engineering work with significant interfacing requirements with other engineering teams including Licensing, Safety Analysis, Civil / Structural, Electrical/I&C, and Process Control.
  • Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286), and quality standards (CSA N299).
  • Experience managing and/or performing work under nuclear Codes and Standards such as CSA N285, ASME III.
  • Experience in equipment and component design using ANSYS, COMPRESS, and/or other equivalent analysis codes.
  • Experience in procurement, operation, and maintenance of nuclear & non-nuclear process equipment.
  • Proven track record of performance in a dynamic, project delivery environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

QUALIFICATIONS: -

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited University.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in a Province of Canada, member in good standing.
  • 10 years of analysis and design/ technical procurement experience in heavy industry equipment and components.
  • 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience.
  • 3 or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Technical Manager will oversee the work of 20-30 engineering staff.  Supervisory responsibilities include:
  • Fostering a positive team environment where good performance is recognized and celebrated.
  • Coaching for improved performance.
  • Performing administrative tasks, e.g., timesheet approvals, vacation approvals.
  • Supporting the Functional Management team (as requested) with:
  • Recruitment of new staff
  • Performance feedback and performance enhancement
  • Goal Setting
  • Training and Qualifications Management

OTHER ASPECTS

  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet business needs (Note: the initial site location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario)
  • Security Clearance with Public Services and Procurement Canada is a condition of employment.
