Complex Project Engineering / Delivery Leads

Within our Power New Build business, we are evolving our offering to clients to include full end to end engineering capability. This will include the design, manufacture and supply of complex plant and equipment, in doing so solving our clients’ complex technical problems within their existing facilities and new build or research environments.   Such projects range from glove box experiments, test rig applications, skid-based systems to full facility design and manufacture.

We seek to do this by building on our in-house capability combining our cross-industry consultancy experience with our wider infrastructure capability from across AtkinsRéalis.

We are therefore seeking individuals with key experience in the delivery of bespoke EPC projects within high hazard environments, with the drive to support the development of our capability combining your own experience and best practice with that of our wider business.

Disciplines:

We are looking for leads across all engineering requirements (Mechanical, Electrical, building services, C&I), with the ability to thrive within critical project delivery roles. We are seeking:

  • Mechanical Design Lead.
  • Mechanical Engineering Leads.
  • Procurement Lead.
  • C&I Engineering Lead.
  • Electrical Engineering Leads.
  • Quality Leads.
  • Process Safety Leads.
  • Systems Engineering.

Experience:

We are open to hearing from people with varying levels of experience as we have roles and opportunities at Manager level, through to project engineer, dependent upon experience, knowledge, and qualifications.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Engineer (desirable).
  • Recognised Project Management qualification (desirable).
  • Engineering qualification, to at least HND or Degree level.

Essential Criteria:

  • A “can do” and “in this together” attitude and approach to work.
  • Experience of delivery of complex multi-disciplinary engineering solutions in a high-risk industry.
  • Able to manage interfaces between and across disciplines and suppliers helping to ensure right first-time delivery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and influence a wide range of customers, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure expectations are managed and met.
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of Health and Safety and approaches to management of health and safety issues.
  • Able to capture learning and support the development of people and processes, ensuring that we grow our capability whilst delivering right first time to our customers.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Competent in development and management of specifications for procurement and manufacturing.
  • Experience of design for operation, with an ability to anticipate challenges that may lie ahead in fabrication.
  • Commercially aware and considers commercial impacts of decisions and proposals.
  • Communication of complex technical information in a variety of forms to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrable competence in effective management and leadership of a delivery team, with experience of delivering through people.
  • Excellent technical competence and understanding relating to engineering solutions.
  • Persuasive and influential, able to get results from geographically and organisationally diverse team.
  • Appreciation of Systems Engineering approach to delivery.
  • Ability to discharge the role of Principal Designer under the Construction (Design) Management regulations 2015.
  • Manufacturing/installation/commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of IEC 16508 and 161511.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & management of a group of multidiscipline engineers, technicians, supply chain and joint venture personnel as required.
  • Ensuring the engineering solutions are delivered to schedule and budget and meet the client requirements.
  • Ensure the engineering solution meets the relevant standards and legislation.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety requirements are addressed throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Technical lead for the project ensuring the correct approach for delivery.
  • Communication across teams and to project stakeholders ensuring expectations are managed.
  • Coordination and management of the supply chain to deliver required results.
  • Identify and coordinate applicable engineering change requests.
  • Ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with the principles of ISO19650 – Building Information Modelling.
  • Support to many commercial aspects of the project; including formulation of the capital budget; negotiation on costs; contractual arrangements, management of variations, working closely with procurement, finance, and admin colleagues.
  • Risk identification and mitigation, anticipating engineering challenges.
  • Take ownership of engineering problems, seeing them through to resolution.
  • Working with planning colleagues to create and maintain realisation programmes.
  • Support to the Validation and Verification Plan, Configuration Management Plan and Digital Execution Plan for the project and ensuring these plans are deployed across the project.

Driven individual with excellent communication skills and ability to deliver through a teamwork ethos.

Ability to understand and make sense of complex issues and translate them into a deliverable plan.
