Facade Engineering Principal/ Associate

AtkinsRéalis Building Design are looking to appoint a Principal Façade Engineer/Associate Façade Engineer to join our team in London. We are also looking for someone who can demonstrate leadership and innovation, to act as part of a senior facades management team, playing a key role in the development of façade engineering within our Building Design practice.

In addition to being technically accomplished, candidates will be excellent at client liaison and stakeholder management. Successful candidates will be able to proactively solve project challenges as part of multi-disciplinary project teams in Building Design. We are seeking individuals who are keen to drive the development of façade engineering design processes to meet increasingly complex industry demands, such as the challenges of the climate emergency and the Building Safety Act. You will be working on a diverse range of exciting projects with values up to £150M. These range from landmark infrastructure, sustainable solutions in education and residential, through to state-of-the-art workplaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical delivery of façade engineering services on single- and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Participate in internal technical networks and promote façade engineering issues to the wider AtkinsRéalis Building Design community.
  • Build client relationships and help identify business opportunities. Contribute to bid-writing and winning work.
  • Assist in developing the practices, procedures and ethos of a rapidly-growing façade team.

Requirements:

  • Chartered engineer or qualified architect with a few years' post-Chartership experience.
  • Be a member or associate member of the Society of Façade Engineering or be ready to apply for membership.
  • Be experienced in the commercial aspects of projects, managing resources and budgets effectively.
  • Be an accomplished technical professional (able to coach and review work of others) in at least two of the following fields relating to facades:
    • Structural analysis.
    • Thermal analysis.
    • Embodied carbon assessment.
    • Specification authoring.
    • Concept design.
    • Complex geometry.
    • Glazing and curtain walling design.
    • Production of detail drawings.
    • Survey and inspection.
    • Forensic analysis of defects.
    • Manufacturing and pre-assembly techniques.
    • Management of quality control process.
