This role is based out of the Candu Energy Inc. home office in Mississauga, Ontario.

Reporting to the Director of Retube, Inspection and Maintenance Systems (RIMS), the Functional Manager would support Field Services & Fuel Handling department within RIMS.  This leader will be responsible for the career progression and performance of all individuals within the department.

Your role within the team:

Resourcing and Organization:

  • Supplies qualified and appropriate staff to projects based on project requests.
  • Maintains a capability profile of the team, including individual experience and skills.
  • Identifies gaps in the size or technical capabilities of the team relative to forecast requirements and develops and executes a plan to close those gaps through a combination of hiring, releasing and developing staff.

Training and Mentorship:

  • Develop, maintain and execute training, development, qualification, knowledge transfer and succession plans for the team.
  • Ensure all training and qualification records are up-to-date, and required training and qualifications are completed/updated on time.

Department Objectives and KPI:

  • Helps staff set SMART objectives aligned with business demands.
  • Tracks, analyses and develops/executes plans to improve department targeted Key Performance Indicators and objectives.

Staff Performance and Performance Reviews:

  • Accountable for functional performance review processes.
  • Provides clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, recognizes and rewards achievements, and takes disciplinary steps when warranted.
  • Responsible for human resources issues and effectively manages and resolves any such issues, working as appropriate with Technical Managers.

The ideal Candidate:

  • University or Post-secondary degree in an applicable field of engineering or science.
  • 8 years of progressive experience in a discipline relevant to the skill areas being managed, including experience leading technical teams.
  • Three or more years of experience directing engineering teams.
  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada would be preferred.
  • Excellent organizational capabilities.
  • Strong direction and coaching skills in the development of team members and support staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet corporate needs.
