Arya, tell us something about you.

I love to be around people and can't resist tapping my feet when in the right company with the right music. Apart from my passion for dancing, I like writing poems and singing songs.

This year's International Women's Day theme is #EmbraceEquity – how are you celebrating?

I celebrate this with so much pride today because I see women all around me conquering their jobs, proving their potential and impacting the organization.

When did you realize you wanted your career back?

I was a full-time mother taking care of my home and child. One fine day I came across this quote by Lord Buddha "The mind is everything. What you think, you become." This thought inspired me to understand and realize my potential and act according to how I perceive myself and my capabilities. So, If I believe I can work and care for my child as well, I can totally achieve that. The only thing I need to do is to train myself accordingly, and then everything will fall into place, and I did that.

How has equity helped you get where you are today inside Atkins?

Before joining Atkins, I had many questions. How would I restart my career, manage my work-life balance and so on? But after joining Atkins, there has been no looking back. It has provided me with the best atmosphere to grow and learn. The best team, best managers and directors who believe in me and constantly encourage me to be a better version of myself. A year of working here has empowered me to take up new responsibilities, represent my team and organization, and identify my hidden potential. As a woman, I would be forever grateful to Atkins for helping me redefine myself and instilling self-confidence that inspires me to take up new challenges.

What made you choose Atkins' ReDesign Programme?

I felt very much connected to The ReDesign initiative because it was meant for women like me who were looking for an opportunity. This was a platform that wouldn't judge our career break but instead encourage and support us to join the workforce again. A programme where we could prove our potential and fulfill our unaccomplished dreams.

What barriers did you feel returning to work?

My biggest challenge was meeting my son's needs and excelling at work. Atkins, my manager, and my team helped me manage this easily. For instance, I needed a half-hour break daily to pick up my child from school, and my team accommodated me, and we planned the work accordingly.

What does your new career entail?

I'm an associate Quality Analyst. So typically, I evaluate products, systems and software to ensure they are defect-free and meet our quality standards. I have also started working as a Business Analyst for the Canada Line Digital Twin project. I connect with clients, understand their needs, connect with UI/UX developers to prepare the mock-ups, and get these reviewed by clients. I also create business proposals, brief the GTC team and perform User-Acceptance Testing to ensure the product is delivered to client expectations. I am happy that I share an excellent bond with each of my team members. Our work environment is very healthy and supportive.

What career moment are you most proud of at Atkins?

It all started when I was chosen to give a project demo to the clients. My presentation was well received and appreciated by everyone. Since then, I've been privileged to connect with clients several times. This has indeed raised my self-confidence and profile in the organization. I'm proud of my honest work. I am always dedicated to my commitments and think from the client's perspective. I encourage my team to prioritize the tasks in a way that will bring the utmost client satisfaction.

How can we use innovation and technology for gender equity?

Many women worldwide have so much potential but can't join the workforce due to personal commitments and responsibilities. Innovation and technology can be pivotal as internet access, and digital devices provide them the platform to work and grow from their shells. This has already begun, and I am sure that eventually, with technological advancements, there will be enormous employment opportunities for everyone.

How are young professional women inspiring you inside Atkins?

I see them bringing much more confidence and capabilities to the organization. I get inspired by how they are always ready to take up new challenges and look forward to growing in the organization. Every woman has an inspiring story to encourage others. They rightly justify the thought, "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."

Imagine working for an organization that embraces equity? Well, we're hiring: search and apply now.
