Insights Championing gender equality: a look inside our journey
We're proud to announce that Atkins in the UK , has been recognized in The Times' Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality. It's a prestigious listing of employers dedicated to gender equality in the workplace. A testament to how our employees champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) – from members of employee networks to team leaders, line managers and senior executives!
Committed to gender equality
Atkins earned this honour by demonstrating a robust commitment to advancing women throughout our entire organization – not just in specific areas. The Times and Business in the Community experts oversee the selection process, recognizing companies that embed gender equality into their business strategy.
Continuous improvement
Our journey toward gender equality has been an ongoing process in cooperation with our employees and demands continuous action. Under our ED&I strategy, 'Different Makes a Difference,' we are all actively fostering a culture where everyone belongs, can be themselves, and reach their full potential.
Since 2021, we've seen steady growth in the number of women in our organization, from 30.4% to 31.5%, and a notable increase among our managers and leaders, from 18.9% to 22.1%. We appreciate that people have full and rich lives outside of work – here are some of the ways we support you when you join us:
Flexible working: Our work culture allows everyone to find a work-life balance that suits their personal lives, making building a life and a career much more rewarding
Parental leave: We've upgraded our Family Leave Policies to better support you in balancing your work and family responsibilities.
Embracing difference: Our eight employee networks, spanning grades, functions, backgrounds, and regions, encourage discussions on a variety of topics, helping us to appreciate our unique, talented and diverse people.
Our external voice: We actively seek to attract and develop women through our apprenticeship and graduate training schemes, Returners Programme, STEM events, and partnerships with schools and charities across the UK.
Supporting you: We offer our employees resources and guidance during challenging times, reflecting the evolving social challenges of the day. This includes support in mental health, domestic abuse, suicide awareness, flexible working and hybrid working. Recently, we've been discussing the cost-of-living crisis and sharing information on financial well-being.
Looking ahead
As we continue our journey, we'll integrate feedback from our people and outside experts to keep evolving our ED&I strategy. Our goal remains to continually foster a culture of inclusion while championing change in our industry.
