Position – Junior/Assistant Consultant – P1/G8 or G9

The job involves working with the UK Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology business. We currently have an opportunity for a Junior/Assistant Engineer to join the Atkins Global Technology Centre in Bangalore/Mumbai, India. The work involves UK and International projects being delivered by Atkins across a range of market sectors like Highways, Rails, Tunnels, including the development of Cities, Mass Transit and Energy infrastructure. 

We are looking for an individual with proven experience in Environmental Site Assessments and Investigation, chemical assessment and quantitative risk assessment relating to land contamination and brownfield regeneration, to join our reputable Environment team and support an expanding project workload and client base.

Mandatory Requirements

  • 3-12 years’ experience in conducting Phase I Site Assessment and Phase 2 intrusive Site Investigation, with experience in multiple site investigation techniques. Field work experience will be preferable.
  • Post Graduate Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geosciences, chemistry, environmental science and hydrogeology).
  • Able to produce factual and interpretative reports including generic qualitative/ quantitative risk assessment for controlled waters, human health and property receptors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Land contamination risk management (LCRM), Stage 1 risk assessment and Stage 2 options appraisal.
  • Demonstrate good, relevant land contamination/brownfield land experience in Phase 1 Desk Studies.
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of conceptual site models and generic level risk assessments for soils and waters. Experience working for UK will be preferable either in an excellence centre or in the region.
  • Excellent writing and reporting Skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient ability to interpret, review and analyse data to produce reports.
  • Invaluable understanding of environmental regulations.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently or within a team
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the project/team/wider team

Desirable Requirements:

  • Knowledge and technical understanding of conceptual site models and generic level risk assessments for controlled waters (in the UK, surface water and groundwater) and human health risk assessments (CLEA tool) and using Soil Guideline Values (Environment Agency, UK).
  • Industry standards CIRIA, 2001. Contaminated land risk assessment. A guide to good practice (C552), and have broad understanding of DEFRA, 2012. Environmental Protection Act 1990: Part 2A, Contaminated Land Statutory Guidance.
  • CL:AIRE and CIRIA guidance for Asbestos, Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Groundwater and C4SLs.
  • Codes of practice for ground investigations and potentially contaminated sites.
  • Knowledge of groundwater modelling software ConSim/P20 would be an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Organisation, collation and assessment of desk-based information as part of Phase 1 Desk Studies.
  • Assisting in designing or able to design (then organise) environmental/geo-environmental site investigations, including soil sampling and ground gas/vapour/leachate/groundwater and surface water monitoring/sampling.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including preparation of H&S Plans for site investigation and managing health and safety on site.
  • Preparing Method Statements, Specifications and Drawings.
  • Digital Data Management and sample scheduling, data transfer and statistics.
  • Developing conceptual site models and carrying out qualitative and semi-quantitative risk assessments for human health, surface and groundwater and property receptors under UK good practice guidance.
  • Factual and Interpretative Reporting.
  • Scheduling and managing work to acceptable quality, on time and to budget.
  • Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs
