Assistant Technician / Technician, Epsom

Atkins works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes, and due to growth in this sector we are currently seeking two new Technicians to join our established water sector focused team based in Epsom.

The role will sit within the Asset Planning & Solutions practice of the Atkin’s Infrastructure division and offers excellent opportunities for career development and training for the right candidate. Your initial project would require you to spend time working on site as part of a team installing monitoring equipment on potable water networks combined with some office-based activities spent analysing data and writing reports.  If you are interested in working within our team and want to understand where a career with Atkins might lead to - then we would like to hear from you.

Whilst technical experience is not essential, the applicant should be confident, have good communications skills and be interested in working as part of a successful team. A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential, whilst experience with AutoCAD and / or of Geographical Information Systems, such as MapInfo, would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will receive the training and support necessary to develop a career at Atkins.

Responsibilities

• Site inspections and data collection;
• Data analysis, verification, and reporting;
• Working as part of a team of two on site;
• Use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to create drawings and present data;
• Problem-solving within the project environment;
• Maintaining good client, supplier and in-house relationships.

Requirements

• A Levels or equivalent qualifications in Maths, Sciences, or other similar subjects;
• Further educational qualifications (Level 4 or above) would be an advantage;
• A proactive and conscientious approach to work;
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to understand and follow instructions;
• A keen eye for detail and a desire to learn;
• A willingness to learn from project experiences and to adopt Atkins' systems and processes;
• Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable Criteria

• Evidence of successfully undertaking and completing work experience (voluntary / employed);
• A knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the water cycle;
• An interest in Geographical Information Systems, computer modelling or engineering;
• Knowledge ArcGIS, MapInfo and / or AutoCAD;
• Full driving licence with no endorsements.
