The opening presents the opportunity to join our Building Services team in Epsom who are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across a plethora of sectors including Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (eg Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Residential, Blue Light, Education, Transportation and Defence. Our work will have you working with designers all across the UK and internationally on projects that range from small net zero carbon housing developments to projects of significant and national scale.

The opportunity will require candidates to be client-facing as well as being involved in the day-to-day design and management of projects. It is an exciting opportunity for an experienced design engineer to further develop their career within a leading building design consultancy.

Our focus is on developing our staff to realise their full potential, with development plans geared to individual needs and abilities. This role will allow development of existing technical skills as well as providing potential to expand digital skills and project management.

Our Practice is committed to developing our ways of working using emerging Digital Technology and your work will be supported by our Research and Innovation teams and local digital champions who are delivering Digital Transformation programmes at a local and international scale. Our ideal individual will bring strong technical skills to the role, as well as an enquiring mind able to contribute to the growth of our digital practice, and the potential to lead and manage large and diverse delivery teams, locally and remotely.

You will work closely with bid teams to capture internal and external business opportunities in the above referenced sectors. You’ll have the capability to take a brief, provide a comprehensive Building Services bid response and manage a team to deliver project design services.

Responsibilities: 

Commercial:

  • Commercially aware and capable of identifying and securing internal and external project opportunities.
  • Takes commercial responsibility for the delivery of the Building Services team engaged on projects. 
  • Bidding for project opportunities in compliance with business guidelines. 

People:

  • Generates good working relationships with internal and external clients and develops a client relationship management strategy. 
  • Provides management, motivation, inspiration and leadership for the Building Services team engaged on projects. 
  • Undertakes appraisals and personal development plans for selected team members. 
  • Good team leader skills in order to grow the business and develop team culture. 
  • Can identify and nurture talent in others to build a high performing and technically sound team. 

Technical:

  • Assumes full technical responsibility and operational accountability for Building Services team output on projects.
  • Comfortable in communicating and challenging other design team members to arrive at the optimum Building Services design solution. 
  • Has an engineering design background and able to fully demonstrate an ability to design and lead Electrical/ Discipline,Building Services teams and/or Multi-Discipline teams. 
  • Extensive Electrical/ design experience in the construction industry. 
  • Able to demonstrate a full understanding of the key Building Services design considerations when working on projects and familiar with relevant industry standards and guidelines. 

Business Development:

  • Produces and/or implements discipline tactical marketing plans and ensure monthly business activities are undertaken regularly. 
  • Develops marketing material, bid documents etc. 

Requirements: 

  • Degree qualified in an Electrical or Mechanical discipline and preferably Chartered with a relevant institution. 
  • Ability to influence senior management and peers within the industry and positively challenge. 
  • Experience in either one or more of our sectors would be advantageous.
  • An astute Electrical/ Building Services Engineer of high technical standing. 
  • Extensive project experience, necessitating high levels of technical competence. 
  • Experience working on a variety of major multi-discipline design projects. 
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management skills with the ability to run a team. 
  • Good commercial awareness, project governance, business management skills and results orientation. 
  • Customer focused with a high level of relationship management skills. 
  • Confident ability with good communication skills and a professional approach to clients and other AtkinsRéalis employees. 
  • Ability to collate information and have a clear and structured approach to report writing. 
  • Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.
