Communications Systems Tester

This position will be within the CTSC Commissioning team and will lead the on-site testing events for Comms related systems and their integrations with other subsystems, reporting to the Commissioning Manager - Communications Systems and interfacing with various parties: stations M&E, commissioning coordinators, vendors, CTSC Systems Install team, CTSD and HMQE who will be witnessing the testing events.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Lead the on-site execution of all Communications T&C activities, both Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT) events.
  • Perform a pre-brief prior to all testing activities to ensure all participants are aware of how the activity will proceed, what the risks are, and what safety requirements are in place Perform de-briefs following testing activities for the purposes of getting feedback from the witnesses and to identify and log deficiencies and their category (A, B or C).
  • Ensure the test results are properly recorded.
  • Liaise, if required, with the Engineer of Record (CTSD) and/or vendors for technical support during the execution of the test activities.
  • Review test procedures as required.
  • Escalate any issues to the Commissioning Manager- Communications.
  • Raise any PICO issues that get flushed out of a SAT/SIT event during a commissioning event.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by the Commissioning Manager- Communications.

The ideal candidate:

  • Attained a degree or a certificate in a technology-related field (recommended).
  • Prior experience (3-5 years) with SCADA, certain telecoms subsystems (CCTV, IAC, PA, etc.) and/or systems suppliers, preferably on railways projects.
  • Technically knowledgeable, excellent communication skills and a team player.
  • Has the drive to solve problems and follow through until issues are resolved.

The candidate will be briefed on the various telecoms subsystems employed on the project, the design ethos for these systems and the test procedures in place ahead of being assigned to witness/lead a test.
