Mission Statement:

Provide systematic and efficient analysis of key contracts at inquiry stage; at execution stages, analysis and management of the execution of such contracts made with customers, partners, suppliers, subcontractors, to maximize financial and operational performance, minimize risks and share lessons learnt.

Responsibilities and accountabilities:

The contract manager under the direction of the project director/manager has overall responsibility for all contractual activities.

Main duties:

  • Support projects from inquiry to close-out.
  • Support projects from execution start-up with contract analysis and flow down requirements for the project subcontractors and contractors/suppliers.
  • Establish and implement project specific contractual procedures, particularly regarding claims, insurance, variation orders, correspondence and notifications.
  • Assume responsibility for all project contractual activities from hand-over from sales/marketing until contractual obligations are complete and all contractual issues are resolved /settled.
  • Identify customer/consortium and other third-party obligations and develop/implement the project contract commercial plan, including project claim strategy.
  • Liaise with project planner to ensure contract programme and appropriate schedules for subcontracts are produced and maintained, to support project claim strategy.
  • Support project risk and opportunity identification and analysis.
  • Ensure notices given in line with contract requirements.
  • Proactively manage claims to/from customers, partners and subcontractors, incl. negotiations and settlements
  • Support management of claims to/from contractors and suppliers as required and ensure appropriate recovery from third parties.
  • Manage customer variation requests/orders.
  • Manage project insurances: ensure contract compliant insurance coverage; submit, monitor and settle of insurance claims in accordance with policies.
  • Provide support and guidance to project team on general contractual practices and issues. Clarify contractual/legal enquiries, if necessary, referring to Legal.
  • Provide support in the event of a (potential) dispute.
  • Report on project claims and variations, as well as potentially critical contract issues to management and, as required, to project control, finance and audit staff.
  • Report to management for the approval of variation orders, amendments and settlements in accordance with the applicable Delegation of Authority.
  • Contribute to tenders in accordance with applicable policies to support, guide and challenge sales, tender, bid and project teams on defined contractual and commercial matters to ensure that all contracts are concluded with the aim to optimize the contract related risks and opportunities during execution.
  • Contribute to tender for preparation of deviation list/ pre-bid queries/ clarifications are review of tender docs.

Education and Knowledge:

  • University degree in engineering, quantity surveying, business administration or law.
  • Experience/ acquainted with standard Project management practices and risk management is preferable. 
  • Understanding of contract law.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good in letter writing.
  • Technical understanding.
  • Analytical skills.

Experience:

  • 6-8 years in Substation Projects (Experience in metro projects is preferable)
